Was wondering if all the farmgirls are safe & sound that live in areas that have been hit by the tornado swarm over the past few days? Just heartbreaking scenes they've been showing on the Weather Channel & local news here.

Thanks to everyone who has helped in the tornado relief efforts. There is so much work to do and it's going to take a long time to build up Henryville and the other places affected. Farmgals are the best!

What a good way to help. I went on and bought a few things that maybe I would have bought at another time but doing it now helped the fundraiser and that is good by me. Thank you to all the people that are making this happen-very generous. Joey

I live in Louisville and where we live the tornadoes went above, below and around us. We sat in the basement and listened to the radio. The pictures just break my heart. Having frown up in central Oklahoma , aka "tornado alley", I knew this was going to be a bad one. When the Oklahomans get nervous it is NOT a good sign!
There are whole communities that are just gone. The stories are heart-wrenching to hear. We want to do something (other than donate money which we have done) but don't know what.

Amber, so thankful that nobody was injured badly. I know what you mean about the devastation. Henryville looks like a nuclear bomb went off. A couple hours after the tornado's a strong wind came thru and people just started running for cover, everyone was so scared and shaken. The death and devastation is so hard. But so many people have reached out to help. Some of the youtube videos from Henryville even tho they look terrible still doesnt show the reality of it all. This is a terrible place for tornado's and I'm dreading the season, It's predicted to be a deadly season this year. And I'm afraid what we've seen is only a taste of what may come. God protect and keep us all. God bless you Amber and I pray for all of your family and friends involved.

I live in Kenton County -within a few miles out from Piner, Ky. It was and still is devestating. I have a few family members,friends, and church members who have lost their homes or are damaged. Thank the Lord no one was severely injured or worse.
However, it is really heart warming to see those of you on here donating your proceeds to help. |

Yes Stephanie is a true hero. Henryville will rebuild. They are a small community as is all of our surrounding communities but with so much help pouring in and all the encouragement I think the rebuilding of Henryville will be great!

So glad all of you are ok. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been affected by this.
My house was destroyed in 1990 by the tornado that went through Plainfield, IL, killing 29 people. Fortunately, even though I lost a lot of "stuff", both my daughters were fine - my oldest daughter was home alone when it hit (she was 16 at the time) - we are cautious and take storm warnings very seriously. It definitely makes you realize what is important in life. Those pictures brought back a lot of memories.
I will never forget the helpfulness and generosity of the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and local churches.

I live in KY and we were spared but a neighbor lost a roof on one of his outbuildings and a friend about 5 miles away had damage to her barns. A small town about 25 miles from us was hit and lots the church, general store and damaged the cemetary and a few houses. Two ladies in my quilt lived there. We live in Caneyville, close to Litchfield, and the tornadoes coming up from Bowling Green were heading for us but they just skirted around us...Thank God! We could see the black clouds on both sides of our property but only got the high winds and rain. They're saying this is just the beginning of a devastating tornado season and the next time a cold blast comes down from Canada, we'll be in danger again. It was 76 on Friday when the tornadoes hit. It's in the low 70's today. our quilt guild met yesterday and are donating personal care bags we had made and filled them with necessities and they are going to the Red Cross today.
It's a hard thing to see and I understand the helplessness we feel in times like this. I'd suggest that cash be sent to the Red Cross earmarked for tornado relief.

Stephanie was on our local news-I can't begin to imagine what the people must be going thru emotionally. The entire family that was killed by the storm was really shocking. Glad to know help is arriving...wondering if Henryville will rebuild or if people will move to other cities.

JOnni- I am glad that you are safe. If something good comes from this let it remind us all just how precious LIFE is, and that things are just that THINGS!
Mikki- it must be terrible to be so near the devastation and to know people directly affected in so many terrible ways.

I'm about 8 miles from Henryville, Indiana in Scott County. Henryville is just gone. It's so devastating to see. I have friends and family that live there. One of my friends lost her cousin and his wife and three children. The little girl named Angel just died a couple days ago. A complete family killed, it's terrible. One lady named Stephanie layed over top of her children, they are all safe but she lost her legs. Please pray for her. All of my friends are safe, one lost their home, another her roof, and another only windows were blown out. But the emotional scars on them and their children are very deep. The school is completely gone. It looks like a bomb went off, like a movie set or something. Tide Loads of Hope came in today! We are so excited about that, also Duracell so they can charge phones and stuff, Crest is coming I believe. It's horrible to see such tragedy.

I pray that God will comfort and help you.
We here in Va. ( my part any ways) and down on the " Smith" farm have had really heavy rain this past weekend,, wind and this morning snow in some places;
as I look over all the mountains around us; I see now. the mountain we live on in front of us has snow,
looks like a lot on top and the mountains further away to
we had a few snow showers and just a covering of snow when I woke up
the wind has blown it all away . hugs sheila

Don't feel guilty about your home not being affected-it's not like you had any power over where the storms hit. Am very glad you're using those "too good to use" items now. My mom often told how my great grandmother had some very nice items for her home but never used them-she waited for that "special occasion" and it never came. Keep us posted on how the donations are going and so forth.

So relieved to hear you were out of harms way, but so very sad for the devastation that has occurred in your corner of the world Jonni! Times like these can be very humbling and also very eye opening to one as well especially the fact that we can lose someone we love in an instant!

I'm about 5 miles from where it hit in Piner, Kentucky, and within minutes of several areas of Indiana and Campbell County, Kentucky--my mother works with several people at Kohl's who were directly affected, whether losing everything themselves, or losing a family member or a family member losing a home, livestock, etc... Feeling so...blessed right now, but very conflicted--the randomness of the devastation really frightens me. I felt guilty all weekend long, spent quality time with my little girl and animals and cleaned out my "too good to use right now" closet and put all those things I've been saving for when the house is "perfect" to use right then and there. Going shopping tonight for supplies to donate to hardhit areas. Aside from Mother Nature reminding me that we are but mere puppets to her whims, I am determined to live my life better and right now.

Mom (KathyC) and I are fine.
I'm in Winston Salem, NC/Pinnacle, NC through the week and we had some nasty weather Wednesday night and Friday in the day time, but no damage on the farm. On the weekends we usually go home near momma and I heard it stormed pretty badly Friday night. Thanks to some Benadryl I didn't hear a thing! LOL
