Well, my Farmgirl family, need to vent. This has been a weird week...I should stay away from glass!

Our furnace (propane gas, for heat and hot water) has been shutting off and on all week. Would run for awhile then kick off. DH would try to fix it (he's very handy), and it would work a day and go off inexplicably. He found a great heating/cooling man and he fixed it yesterday (was a bad wire, not too expensive) but I'm wondering if having the heat go off and on has something to do with all my broken glass. The temp in the house would suddenly drop. When we got the heat going, it could get warm fast...maybe I am just trying to make myself feel better for the "oops" I did this week!

1. Dropped my brand-new jar of Burts Bees face cream on my tile floor. Now my cream has shards of glass in it and I must buy a new one. Bummer.

2. Big oops: I was cleaning my kitchen. I was wiping down the glass, went to open my double oven's bottom door, when the handle on one side came off. (Guess it was loose). The front panel glass is attached at the bottom by a glue strip (found that out the hard way) and two screws at the top of the oven door on either side hold everything together, like a sandwich. This is where the handle attaches to the door. Just two little screws. Bent down with a screwdriver to tighten the bolt and re-attach the handle, and in doing so the glass shattered. It was like an explosion. All over me and the kitchen. DD came running in hysterical...she thought I was hurt. It sounded like a car accident. DH was at work. He didn't care about the oven, just me. I was okay, just shocked. DD had to pull a piece of glass from my head, and I had one in my hand, but it's safety glass so it was not too bad. What a mess! Thousands upon thousands of shards. The picture is horrifying. I am surprised I wasn't cut to shreds. Y'all know from here or if you read my blog, that I am baking or cooking all the time. Thank goodness I wasn't hurt, and have a new piece of glass on order, but what a pain! It was kind of scary. DH has banned me from helping him with his 'Honey Do" list, at least anything that involves tools.

3. Went to put on my beloved Farmgirl Sisterhood necklace, when I noticed the glass is shattered! I haven't dropped it, I don't know what happened. It made me sick to my stomach. That necklace is so sentimental to me, you know? I wear it almost every day. I will have to email Elaine who makes them and see if it can be repaired. I think I am more upset about that than my oven!

SOooo... they say things happen in threes. Hoping that's it!

Farmgirl hugs,
Nicole

Thanks, Suzanne. All is fine now. DH put the new glass on the oven, but it arrived badly scratched so they sent a replacement. He will have to switch it when he gets the time. It was just a series of weird events, I guess!

Nicole - I'm so sorry I didn't see this post until now. How awful to have all that happen in so short a time! Sending you a Farmgirl hug!

Well, the new glass came in but has a bad scratch in it. The company is sending a replacement. DH put it up and discovered that when the oven was originally put in, it was not installed correctly. (I remember the guy coming out and cussing up a storm. He was not the nicest person). DH also tightened the top oven handle as it was getting loose too. The same model the year after no longer has the glass attached to the handle by the two little screws. It fits into a "sleeve". Bet I'm not the only one with it.

Heating guy is back again today. He is changing out a faulty wire. Sigh....always something, right? Oh well. C'est la vie!

On the upside...will be cooking a nice meatloaf for dinner and having a nice relaxing day before my week gets crazy again. Tomorrow's Valentine's Day...Hooray!

Wow! That oven thing sounds spooky. I'd be really freaked out and trying to get the demons out of my house. I did rip the handle off the fridge once, but nothing with glass. I did hear a tawdry saying once: If you think 7 years bad luck for breaking a mirror is bad, see what happens when you break a condom. Oh my!

My gosh, I have never heard of so much bad luck around glass in such a short time!! So glad you are not injured. I bet Elaine can fix your necklace! A new jar of Burt's? What a shame...

I'm off to check my oven door!

Thanks Amy. The oven really did freak me out. We found glass all the way into the family room!

Nicole that is horrible. You had to have been under HIS protection. Blessings that you were not hurt.

Oh Poor Nicole- I am so sorry to hear of your "week in broken glass".
Most importantly you were not cut or hurt badly with the oven door escapade! Ughh. I hope your DD is okay too- I can just imagine her poor thing running in to come upon that scene- very scary for sure!
I am sure Elaine can fix your necklace for you...she is great.
Be well, and I sincerely hope that your weekend is a good, noneventful one. Here on Long Island we are expecting a litle taste of winter tomorrow (about 2-4 inches they say),how about you?
Smiles,

Amie,

Isn't that the truth! I don't think any black cats have crossed my path lately, either. Don't need any help in the bad luck department, ha ha!

Hugs,
Nicole

Wow, Nicole. What a week! At least none of the glass was a mirror, right? So no seven years of bad luck.
