Posted - Feb 10 2012 : 06:35:47 AM The latest issue of "Natural Home and Garden" magazine has a good article by Joel Salatin about eating with the seasons:

I was a little bummed when he said that his egg producers only last for two years...I thought my girls would produce a lot longer than that. I will be heart-broken if I have to start making "plans" for them after two years.

Posted - Feb 10 2012 : 06:43:12 AM good morning paula, thanks for the link. we keep our girls longer. i think batz has some sweet old girls. what they are saying is for production to be high they cull at 2 yrs. egg producers want the hen to lay eggs daily. when the girls are older they lay less often. i am not sure how long they live. i am betting batz knows. i do have a few 5 yr. old ones here. hope this helps happy days in the chicken yard sherrye
