I have attempted the Beginners Gratitude badge many times but have yet to complete it. It seems like one of the easiest badges to work on but usually about 3-4 days into it I forget to write a daily note and start over and so on. I thought maybe we could work on it together. If you are needing this badge join me here daily for the next 30 days. I will be working on this until February 29 but if you get started later just continue on until your month is done.
Here are the requirements for this badge:
9. Farmgirl Gratitude
Beginner Level
• Write a gratitude journal every day for a month. Don’t
repeat the same gratitude more than once to qualify for this
merit badge.
• Read, The Book of Awesome by Neil Pasricha, one entry, once a
day, to help you appreciate the simple things.

I got The Book of Awesome by Neil Pasricha for my kindle through Amazon. I'll be writing my daily gratitude and then I'll do a virtual reading outloud to you of a section of the book. You can read what ever section you want in your book. I'll just be going in order of the book, not picking out any special passage. You can use whatever format you wish for your posting just be sure to post everyday and include your gratitude and the title of your reading passage. If you joined in on the virtual reading outloud just list the title of the passage or you could put "listened outloud". This will be an honor system. Nobody is going to go back and check that you posted daily. This is your badge, so if you don't mind others knowing what you are thankful for join me here daily for a dose of gratitude. What do you say? How about a couple hundred of us apply for the Beginner level Farmgirl Gratitude badge on March 01, 2012.

Begin each morning with a song in your heart.

todays read; getting back into a warm and comfy bed after getting up to pee! so nice when it is still warm!

I'm grateful for my husband, he had major surgery last March, was suppose to be home in a week, instead he
was in the hospital for almost a month. The hospital staff was great, the nurses, aides and the housekeeping staff!
They were all happy and helpful! It was a scary time and I'm happy we have adjusted to a new normal.

Thanks everyone it has been a great month. This will be my first badge! Congratulations to you all!

Todays read soundlrss laughing and noctural bathroom breaks. LOL

Today I am grateful to learn that my son and DIL will be having a little BOY this summer. They already have 2 precious girls, and they can hardly wait to be little surrogate mothers! Of course grannie can hardly wait either.

Will miss you all - daily has sometimes been hard to do because I am such a "scattered" person at times - the personality of a butterfly flitting here and there - and wondering at the end of the day what all I accomplished. LOL

But seriously, its been so enjoyable and I echo the sentiments above.

Love

I am grateful for the ladies here at MJF as well! I can't believe 30 days passed already!

Today’s read: Returning to your warm and comfy bed after getting up to pee in the middle of the night
Blind and stumbling, you grunt and scratch your way to your wrinkled sheet cave after an epic journey through the frozen bathroom wilderness. AWESOME!

This one reminds me of a camping trip where we were in cabins but pee'd outside. It was too far to walk to the latrine (and too dark). Running back into the cabin by the warm fire.

Today is my last day too. This has been such a lovely, learning experience. We all know that its the simple things in life that make us truly happy and working on this badge just reinforces this. And some times we all need reminders.

Victoria - thank you so much for starting this thread. I feel like I've made some new friends and learned a little along the way. And thanks to all of you for sharing so much of yourselves. What a great group of women - who are a subset of a larger group of women. We should all give thanks for MJ and her dedication to her principles and ideas that brought us all together.

Debbie, Kim and Mary - its been fun getting to know you. Keep in touch. Love you all...

Today I am thankful for the sights, sounds, and smells of spring. This morning as I took my tea outside to play with the dogs a bit, it was 57 degrees! There is a blue sky, damp earth, and birds singing. It is truly a glorious morning. I watched as the bluebird stood his ground on top of the birdhouse he's had his eye on for a while - keeping those darn house sparrows away. Who knows if they will stay, but for now, they are here for me to enjoy. Spring is a time of renewal and I think its perfect timing that we are remembering to give thanks for the little things in life. And as we all know, the little things are the big things.

Today's read is returning to bed after a middle of the night pee. For someone who rarely sleeps through the night without a trip to the bathroom (I know TMI) - this rings true for me, especially now when the bed is made with flannel sheets. Ahhhh...

Well ladies, today is our last day. After posting your daily gratitude you will be eligible to apply for your gratitude badge. I want to thank each of you for joining me here daily for the past 30 days. And occasionally, we should drop in a just say hi, how you doing?. I chose today's reading just for today. MJF reminds me of a warm and comfy bed. I was going through a difficult time last year and did not participate on the website for several months. When I did come back it was like crawling back into a comfy bed. Those that I have conversed with many times before welcomed me back and those that were new joined right in to forge new friendships.

I am grateful to have found MJF and to be involved in such a wonderful group of ladies.

I am also grateful for all of you, it's been nice to learn about your interesting lives, and share mine.
The snow is piled so high in our yard I don't know if it will melt in time to plant this spring, no kidding.
Some of the pea fence will need to be fixed because the snow pulled part of it down, love peas!

todays read; slicing open a taped up box with keys or a pen, my husband does this!

Feb 27: Today’s read: Laughing so hard you make no sound at all. AWESOME! (Plus it works your stomach muscles! lolol!)

Today's read: raim on a hot sidewalk. I lobe the smell of a vleansimg soft raim. (Those nasty Texas whirlygigs from the sky, not so much.)

Today i am THANKFUL for you all. I have enjoyed the glimpses into your lives that you have shared. Victoria, i hear what you say about the kids and their busy lives. My dtr lives 4 miles from me, but we are out of the area durimg the winter. Thinking i hadn't heard squat from her for 2 weeks decided to text an "I love you all message" She responded by telling.
me she was at our house with a reelection sign for her boss that she was placing on our lawn. LOL - she is soo funny - We have a great relationship and will be spending many a night soon sitting in bleachers watching the GKids softbsll games! Life is the same each generation, just different. Sending you all my
gratitude. (note.. The first paragraph has way to many "vvvvv's". And won't let me back to correct it. Oh well)

Today I am thankful - not hateful (sorry Mary, couldn't resist - too funny)- that we are expanding the garden and putting up fence. Someone we know is is coming over today to put a fence around our garden area - to keep the dogs out - so we can expand it and build some more raised beds. Not to mention it will look so much nicer than the hodge-podge of fenced areas that we have now. I'm so excited - and looking forward to actually doing some planting outdoors - even though we have a couple more months....

Today's read is slicing open a taped-up box wit a key or pen. The McGyver's theme song is running through my head... Oh wait, I think its the Mission Impossible song - oh well, same thing. LOL...

Well Mary I didn't quite get to the no sound laugh but I did get a good one from your 'hatefulness'. Debbie I know just how you feel. My son is grown and sort of out. He and his wife live in the front part of our land and we live in the back. People think we see each other all the time but truthfully we don't 'see' each other any more than if he lived a 100 miles away. I try to be a good mother-in-law and not get up in their business. They know I'm here and if they need me they don't hesitate. The road that takes you to my house passes their drive and it is so comforting to see their cars in their drive when I come home at night. I may not have seen them that day but I know they are safe. Both of them work in the same town as I and some mornings we leave about the same time so I get to know that they made that long drive safely for that day. I get to honk and wave as they make the turn off to their work place. Many mornings, after the honk and wave, I send a quick text to have a good day and I love you. They think I am the perfect mother because I am not calling all the time and 'bothering' them but what they don't know is if I didn't have those little moments of knowing I probably would be on the phone more.

I am grateful for nights that my husband is ok with just a big old homemade sub sandwich for dinner.

Today’s read: Slicing open a taped-up box with a set of keys or a pen

Don’t worry about finding a knife or pair of scissors, because McGyver’s in the house. AWESOME!

Reading ; wonderful smells in the coffer idle. Mmm

Today I am hateful for my painting group. We get together twice a week from Jan thru March and try to create oil paintings. We critique each others work with encouragement when asked for assistance, and Ooooh and Ahhhh over everyone's efforts. We also serve as each other's support group and cheering section. Yes, I am very grateful.

My Dtr sent me a comment how we all need Vitamin F (friends) for maximum health. She's right ( and my very best friend) !!

Victoria - I use to commute a long distance and I loved to listen to books on tape (at that time). If the book was a good mystery or something, I couldn't believe how quickly the time would fly by. Also, when I worked downtown Chicago, I took the train and had a nice nap before I got home. Not bad at all... I bet your countryside is beautiful. How wise of you to enjoy and let go of all the day's stress. Good for you.

Today I am grateful for friends who get new puppies or kittens. Everyone loves to see and be around puppies and kittens - but I am grateful that I can go to someone's house, get my puppy fix, and leave... My good friend, Pam, just got an adorable Great Pyrenese (sp?) puppy. He is adorable - but he will grow into the size of a small horse - and he needs to be trained. So its extra nice to just go for a visit - then come home to my two adult dogs (who are still pretty darn cute too). :o)

Today's read is laughing so hard you make no sound at all. Its been a while for me too.

I am grateful for my hour each way work commute. If I were driving in the city and loads of traffic I might feel different about it. But, I get to drive some of the prettiest roads in East Texas. It gives me time to think. On the way to work I enjoy a hot cup of coffee in total peace and quiet. On the way home I have time to cool my head, process the day and by the time I get home any bad that might have plagued me during the day is gone. I very seldom bring my work home. By the time I get home I don’t want to think about it anymore and just enjoy what’s going on there.

Today I am thankful for a clean house. Yesterday DH and I did some major cleaning. We've had a lot of mud and the dogs have been creating messes on regular basis which take a lot of time to keep up with - and other things get pushed off. So yesterday everything got the once over - floors mopped, mud splatters cleaned, windows, bathrooms, dusting... Once we got going - there was no stopping. Our house is usually tidy and fairly clean, but last night and this morning its clean through and through. I'm enjoying it while it lasts. :o)

Today's read - the smell of the coffee aisle. I don't drink coffee, but I enjoy the smell.

Mary I am so grateful to know that I am not the only one that does that with dryer lint.

Today’s read: The smell of the coffee aisle in the grocery store
Harsh fluorescent lighting, slushy wet floors, and the cloudy stench of raw fish welcomes you into your friendly neighborhood grocery store. After circling tables of green bananas, wobbly paper towel towers, and piles of day old bagels, it’s kind of nice to stumble upon the coffee aisle and just take a big sniff. AWESOME!

I'm grateful for online art inspiration, a kazillion ideas!

Reading; dryer lint. I always look at it and wonder what craft I can make from it. Can I use it in hansfr paper?
Felting? Seems a shame to just throw it away. Maybe some creative bird would like to use it for her nest.

Today I grateful for strangers. Today I was reminded of patience and com-
Passion watching a disabled young man and his mother navigating thru a store.

Today I am thankful for my accountant and getting our taxes done. We use to do them ourselves - until I started a business, then we decided to have someone who knew what they were doing take care of it. So I found Cathie - she's wonderful - so down to earth, smart, efficient and always has a little time to chat. I set up our appointment early in the year - so the prospect of all the number crunching isn't hanging over my head. Its such a relief walking out of her office knowing that I'm done for another year. Life is good.

I am grateful for Maria. She is one of my co-workers and is helping me learn to speak Spanish.

Today's read: The smell of rain on a hot sidewalk

There’s just something about the smell of rain on a hot sidewalk. It’s sort of like the rain cleans the air – completely hammering all the dirt and grime particles down to the ground and releasing some hot baked-in-chemicals from the pavement. It smells best if it hasn’t rained in a while and the sidewalk is scalding hot. Then it sort of sizzles and steams up into a big, hot, intoxicating whiff. AWESOME!
