Am I the only one who has days like this where they could tell someone to take the farm & shove it??? I am so frustrated right now. We are hog farmers and are in the process of building a 4,000 head barn and things are not going smoothly. The bank let us go ahead and start construction before we closed on our mortgage, now the contractor has pulled out until we do close and the bank is dragging their feet. I am the one that does all the calling everyday, making things are going as they should (which they aren't)and it's starting to wear on me. My husband doesn't realize what a stress this is to me (have to make all these contacts during my regular work day)and he keeps telling me to calm down and get over it. I want to tell him to hire a new business manager.
Anyone else ever have days like these when you just want to give up on the farm? |

Hang in there gals! I have that frustration with my husband for the last four months. Still no squeeze shoot, working pens, and stock trailer. I've been seeing red! Maybe a glimmer of hope, as he mentioned it on the way home from Houston last night.

I can SO relate to the farm frustrations... Hang in there, gals. Those "give-up" days are hopefully fewer than the "glad we're farming" days, and farther between.
I hope that tomorrow is much smoother than today for you both!

I can so appreciate your frustration Ashley. We have a creek (raging river in the winter) that transverses our property. New regulations state that barns must be 25 feet from the river although it is grandfathered, so at least we don't have to move it. Unfortunately the bank of the river is eroding at a scary rate and if it weren't for big tree roots, the barn would have floated away! The fun part came when I phoned to get permission to shore up the bank. Apparently this is a "fish bearing" stream (a joke as the tiny little fry that do occassionally show up in it die when it dries out in the summer). Thus, we have to have approval from the Dept. of Fisheries, then approval from the Ministry of the Environment which requires a $190 non-refundable application fee and we have to provide blueprints of our intentions that must be drawn up by a licensed engineer...all at our expense. <insert scream here>! Meantime, we are losing 5 to 10 feet of riverbank every winter of the little flat land we have for growing.

you could do that for the short term bu then you would be training them and that might get you frustrated to have more questions and less answers. hang in there we are doing stuff with our properties two and the mortage company is two weeks behind schedule here to it is common. Just bear with it when it is all done you will be happy.
