At 3:00 in the morning I woke up to my neighbor yelling and screaming in her back yard, absolutely panicked. As soon as I opened my eyes, I realized I was looking at flames shooting up from her place. Without my glasses on, I couldn't tell if it was her yard or her house so I woke my husband up. Honestly, my first thought was that her house was on fire an the children were still inside. We finally saw it was her yard, the chicken coop. Called 911 and they said they were already on their way. Just as hubby was getting ready to head over and help them out, we saw the flames had died down and the fire department had arrived.

Fortunately, they were able to get the fire out quickly and none of her chickens were damaged. They were all able to get out and into the run area. Fortunately, we've had a great deal of rain here the past few days so the fire wasn't able to spread too much. It scorched the fence and a few trees. At one point, she said that it looked like it was going up a tree which had a branch that was right next to the house. I shudder to think of what might have happened last night.

An hour and a half later, the adrenalin kick finally died out, but I tell you, waking up to such a situation is scary!

One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.

Thank goodness it was just the coop & the chickens are safe-betting it was the wiring in the light in the coop.

Wow, what a scary thing! So glad everyone (chickens included!) are safe and sound, and so glad the fire didn't spread. I know having so much rain out that way gets old, but thank God for it last night!

PS....I have a SIL named Wendy in Oregon too :)

You certainly had your guardian angel watching over you last night! I'm so glad no one was hurt & the damage wasn't any worse than it already was.

Wow, Wendy- I can only imagine how scary that must have been!
I am happy to hear that it was not her home (or yours) and that the chickens all survived.
I hope you got a good, peaceful nights sleep last night.
Happy New Year!

Oh hallelujah! That it wasn't worse than that!

I've BEEN through being awakened in the middle of the night to a fire . . and losing my home, everything in it and our surrounding woods. Very scary!

Oh my gosh! Do they know how it started? What a scary night! I am so glad it wasn't her house and was only the chicken coop!
