Been thrifting for clothes at Sears Outlet for the past 4 tuesdays-you join their rewards club & get an article $7 or less for free,no purchase necessary-plus many of their $9 items are slashed 50% so I've been getting 3 items of new clothing for $10 or under-lands end flannel PJ tops, velvet blouses,t shirts,Christmas dressy mock turtlenecks & scoopnecks, and spring nightgowns. This tuesday will be the last day for the freebie. Feelin sooo fashionable!

We have a wonderful resale shop that supports a local Christian school. I found last week a old metal potatoe masher for 2.25 and a ovenware extra large bowl for 8.50. Sells online for 70.00 to 129.00 dollars.I felt like I scored. Im a resale shop junky. Love doing resale swaps.

Add my name to the list of farmgirls who just love to do thrift store shopping. Aren't farmgirls the smartest women out there?! We know not to pay full price for anything any more. Haven't been in a department store/mall in a very long time and don't miss it. I feel good when I make donations to Goodwill, but even better when I find outstanding deals. My mission now is to find 100% wool anything so I can cut up into mittens, hats, scarves, blankets and anything else I can think of for gifts this coming year. Told my DIL what I do and she thought it was too much work!!! Wait until I make something for her out of my recycled sweaters, etc. It's not all that hard to do at all. But then she's not a crafter or thrift store shopping person. Farmgirls just know how to get all there is out of just about everything. Love finding an "upscale" brand item for a couple of bucks at Goodwill. Just makes me feel so warm inside and I leave with a smile on my face knowing how much I saved. Also salvaged a couple of wool shirts that my DH has "outgrown" from LL Bean that I'll make into something as well. Yippy!!

I'm a thrifter too! We have a Goodwill about five minutes from our house. It's a great place to get holiday decorations and books and such. I go about once a week to check out their "new" items. It is such fun!

Yet again my mom got each of us the "perfect" book present at a thrift store. In my case it was a french cookbook (I love France) along with a vintage tablecloth that matched the Fiestaware teapot she got for me too. She didn't realize that it was a perfect match till she got it home, then when I was looking at the tablecloth I found that it was from Paris - serendipity???

Patricia, that's why I want that quilt rack, to display a quilt that my great-grandmother made.

I see they have put out silverware now. I see myself making more spoon bracelets in the future.

Last week the little mission resale shop in our town announced it was closing. Hubby and I went down and I bought a brand new 100% leather purse from Italy for $4, he got a double insulated flannel jacket for $2 and I bought a 100% wool coat to tear apart for rug hooking material. I paid $1 for it! It's a lovely heather gray. Fortunately, one of the women who had been volunteering at the mission store bought the building and will run the shop for herself, not the church. It will reopen in January and she promised the same low prices. That's good because this is a very poor town and many of the people need all the help they can get. I had to laugh at myself, I saw a lovely basket that I wanted to buy until hubby pointed out that it was one that I had donated to the shop last month. No wonder I liked it. LOL.

It is just fun to see what you might find.

Our salvage yard accepts aluminum for recycle. We don't have a LOT of cans, but he takes them down and has a little bit of "cash" to spend on whatever he wants. What he comes home with is amazing and his best friend sometimes comes over and they go "shopping" together . . cracks me up.

Oh I wish we had a salvage yard where we live. My DH and I would love that place. We are regulars at our thrift shops here in our town. We find so many good things. What amuses me is finding things I have seen in the retails stores that I wanted a while back at a high price now selling for a really cheap price. The other day I saw one of the original Beany Babies, a series one, for sale for $1.99. I remember women standing in line for hours for those little babies.LOL

I wish we had a salvage yard around where we live. However never rule out just putting the word out..you never know what people have. Last My husband built a greenhouse for almost nothing!! A couple of neighbors do construction...one had extra #2 stone, another had a glass door and one had wire for shelves. A local camp was rebuilding the cabins....all the windows that we could want. The only thing we actually did buy was the clear roofing!! We had lettuce, radishes and onions in march...amazing for this area!!

liven the life I love!

Not only are the local thrift shops a favorite for both me and my hubby, but he shops regularly at the local salvage yard. It's a huge yard and he has saved thousands of dollars on his purchases there. And, it helps that is he very creative and resourceful and can/does build his own equipment, etc. Quite the engineer/inventor!

Thrifting is my favorite; also for my husband! Almost always we can find a bargin at the thrift, things change from day to day so you have to keep going back!
graciegreeneyes Posted - Dec 21 2011 : 06:45:14 AM
I come by my thrifting honestly - my mom is the queen of finding the perfect gift at the thrift store. I try to do as much of my gift shopping there as possible but I don't quite have her mojo I guess.
