Hi Farmgirls,

Countdown to Christmas is on! What are you doin' today?

For me, topping my list is finishing my Christmas cards, and getting them out. I keep thinking it is expensive for all that postage, but can't seem to drop them. It is a tradition I just want to hang on to, especially since it is the only time I get to keep up with some folks who are not on the computer/Facebook.

Next is to do some wrapping and more baking. What are you gals up to today?

Farmgirl Hugs,

Nicole

We had a family gathering last night with just our kids - 4 between DH and I - they are all between 19 and 22 and have significant others and one set has kids so the holiday gets complicated....Anyway, spent yesterday making a turkey dinner and cleaning the house. Now I'm getting ready to have my husband's family over on New Years Day for yet another Christmas gathering - this time it's Cajun/New Orleans/Southern style - lots easier! Then I'll clean the house again and head back to work

Eeveryone has gone back hpome after a wonderful CHRISTmas week where we ate. played games and just enjoyed each others' company. My sweet son and DIL are headed back to Cleveland. I've cleaned the house and have had my nose stuck in a book all day while I watched the snow fall. Nice restful day

I managed to get the house clean, and the big family bash turned out well. We had yesterday to ourselves and I got some sewing done. I have one more Christmas present to finish up...TODAY! Tonight there will be a party of 14 headed out to dinner on the Plaza in Kansas City to see the lights and then my husband's sister, who is visiting from out of town, will come back with us and spend time through New Year's. I'm so glad I took this week off work!!

Well, girls, Christmas Day came and went in a flash. We had a nice, relaxing, happy day! We opened gifts, went to church, and ate a nice big meal. This week, I am recharging my batteries. No formal plans, no rushing. Audrey and I have had tea parties in her room with her dolls, walked the dog, used some of our gift cards we got for Christmas at the mall, saw a movie, and went to "Open Knitting" at our favorite knitting store. We have been nursing a sick kitty all week, but today she seems good. Nice to not have to run here, there and everywhere!

CeeJay: Hope your visit with your daughter was grand! Is she still visiting?

Margo: Hope your week is a good one.

What's everyone doing this week?

Nicole

Paula - I love those books and they are calling my name right now, have been for a couple weeks so evidently I need to re-read them to catch some message I am needing. However, like you, I am hosting more family gatherings this week so I'm going to have to clean the house.... Maybe if I reward myself by reading a little for each job I finish......

I'm wrapping gifts and stuffing my Hubby's Christmas stocking I just made him this week. I'm wrapping Mama's & DH's things in colored/printed tissue paper and putting the gifts in gift bags and stockings. That way it's all reusable. Not taping anyting. :) Don't I feel good about myself! hahahaha...and GREEN! *giggle*

I've been on the couch till just about 1 this afternoon with a bad neck. It finally relaxed enough to pop and straighten out! Now I have to clean up the house, get the laundry put away, and figure out how to wrap all the presents without the girls catchin me.

Tonight is pizza for dinner, our yearly tradition, so there won't be much dinner cleanup and the only prep work is drivin into town.

This is the first year in my life that there isn't a list of parties and houses to visit today and tomorrow. This will be the most peaceful Christmas I've ever had with only a lunch to attend tomorrow. I'm rather enjoyin this!

Well, farmgirls, this is it. Christmas Eve! Merry Christmas to all!

I pulled off my Christmas miracle and got it all done! Yesterday I finished all the laundry and ironing, ran errands, attending Audrey's Class party, and cleaned the whole house, top to bottom. Dropped homemade dinner by my sick friend's house, and finished dropping jam at all the neighbors'. Both cats sick, but are now on meds and seem to be improving. Finished the afternoon with a manicure treat for me and Audrey, then stayed up to midnight finishing everything, and watched a Christmas movie.

Today will be relaxing, I think. Need to make the rice pudding for tonight's dessert, and the cheesecake for tomorrow. DH will be working, but Audrey and I will have lunch with a friend and her children whose DH is also working.

After that, Audrey and I will string popcorn for the birds (we will make "garland" and wrap it around a potted mini-tree), and then I want to sit and knit a bit.

Tonight we will celebrate with a nice meal, then look at Christmas lights. Hope everyone is having a happy, non-stressed day. For those farmgirls traveling, hope you have a happy, safe trip. Love you all!

Nicole

I am so finishing my niece's quilt! I should have just left it sitting on the floor, but I decided that since I was stepping on it (it takes up the whole floor!), I should wash it. Dumb move. Then it all frayed & I had to re-iron everything & I was trying to "move it along" faster, so I wasn't ironing as well as I should have been. But that's the morning job. Now the fun part of putting it all together! Let's hope it doesn't take that long!!! After that, I'm making another batch of hot chocolate mix for my nephew & then comes wrapping! And packing. Oh geez. I better stop before I get discouraged & find I don't have time for everything! I need to leave by 8 am tomorrow for my parents' place (we're doing early Christmas there at 10)....I almost wish I had someone to help me, but it's better if I just do it myself! I'm such a control freak when it comes to my stuff lol.

Early Christmas Dinner at my house tonight! I did as much prep work ahead of time as humanly possible. Used Simply Potatoes (brand) diced potatoes with onions for 2 different potato dishes (both of which are now warming nicely in the crockpots). Boiled them in advance to help ensure cooking, and will use the leftover water for potato rolls. Made bread cubes from Udi's bread, which I dried/toasted yesterday. Ham is in "Big Red" crockpot, cooking nicely. Cookies, etc. have been done and are waiting patiently in containers to be placed on fancy platter. Frozen vegies have been defrosted overnight to cook more quickly later, and will be served with some canned corn. All I have left to do is make the potato rolls and stuffin muffins. Oh, yeah, and tidy up the house!

You can see the whole list on my blog.

I'm glad things calmed down a bit for you Nicole - 3 days before Christmas is not the time for things to start going haywire!
Today I'm making meatballs to freeze, rinsing out the afore-mentioned tie-dyes, making one last stop at the store (my dad called to find out what we wanted to bring for Christmas dinner after I had made my "last" trip to the grocery store), and attending a baby shower for my cousin. Not such a bad day really, except for the 140 mile drive each way to the shower - gives me time to think though;)
Happy countdowning

Yesterday got alot done. Don't feel stressed today. Kitty is on his medication, and taking it like a good boy. My friend is home from the hospital. Will take them dinner tonight, but have everything all ready to go. Just have to heat the casserole. Will clean the house for the holidays, and finish the laundry. Will take the cupcakes to school for my daughter's party. Tonight we will bake some more cookies together. Already dropped off jam to my neighbors. If I get busy early today (drinking coffee first) I think I might be able to pull it all off...

Margo, am thinking of you and hope you have a wonderful trip.

Lori, if you have time, they sell insulated dish carriers at places like Target, Walmart and Joanns. They work great. It's like a tote bag for a casserole. You could put your green bean dish in that for the pig roast.

COUNTDOWN IS ON GIRLS!!! Have a great day!

today started out early and leisurely- read for 3 hours!both girls (cat and dog) were on the chair with me; well, in my lap!- went to senior lunch -yummo food today!-had to make a quick run to the grocery-AGAIN!- finished the baking, packaged up all the cookies, sweetie packed the car as much as can be done before morning-our pastor came by to change out the car battery with one he had; brought me two wonderful pair of jammies that are brand new but dont fit his MIL;i packed clothes and "bags"of stuff-since we'll be in a motel im taking some foodstuffs and extra coffee etc...also went thru my fabric stash to take along to start the valentines heart yo yo's-have to buy some "white"( we're making 2 red 2 white 2 pink yo yo's for this swap), wrote a letter to my mother and father so that they will know about my cancer (computer printed each out so they are exactly the same -no one can say that i told one more than the other etc).chane dthe cat box and set up an extra, did a quick load of laundry and hun it to dry. ex husband requested that i make pepperoni rolls while we are in ohio- i said np! sooooo that will take time saturday i guess..i dont mind-i'm flattered that he asks!of course, that gave an excuse to pack an apron!

someone mentioned starting the baking earlier next year-yea! i second that one!!!!!i found myself cutting corners to get done and dont feel that i was as generous as i had wanted to be--however, no one is expecting them so!!!!!

in a bit i think i'm going to head back to the chair and (probly) finish the book...then hope to fall quickly to sleep!if all goes well we'll be on the road by 8.....cannot wait to hug the kids and grands......

WOW!!!!! And I thought I was busy. Finished the last of the baking yesterday - have been doing some sort of baking for the past week for various people (friends, mailman, postman, etc.). Frosted the last of the cookies yesterday afternoon. Make about 25 loaves of banana bread or zuck bread as well as some candied pecans (yummo). So yesterday DH got the great idea of getting out the boxes from the spare room closet and going through all the pictures we've taken for the last 40 years. Good golly!!!! Has been fun looking at them again, but have also tossed a lot too. We've just had these boxes stored for the past five years. Think I'd rather do the baking!! Lots easier. Did get all my cards out earlier, but think I'll start baking earlier next year - this year was just too much down to the wire. Sure everyone is thinking that they can all relax after Sunday. So to all I wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
