I have had a trusty windchime, with about 12" long metal chimes, probably going on 20 years now. During the last big windstorm a couple weeks ago, the twirly thing broke off... Guess it had reached it's life expectancy, and perhaps beyond. I was shopping for a replacement water filter today, and funny how things just show up when we need them... a big display of reasonably priced windchimes! I chose a larger one this time, 24" chimes because I love the deep tones. It's already soothed me with the gentle breeze that flows through on occasion tonight. When I hear them it's like Spirit saying, "I Am Here".. and that is so calming to me. Does anyone else really love windchimes?

I had to laugh at the high kiccking remark! I sit at a computer all day and to my right there was this thing with holes in it. So I took the smallish windchime my friends grandaughter gave me as a thank you (butterflies kind of a blueish/purple color) and a paperclip and hung it from the corner of my desk. It hangs towards the floor.
I love the banana holder idea! I think my windchime might be too long for it though. I'll have to experiement. (or get a small windchime)

I enjoy windchimes too.We have the "tuned" metal, clay pipes, old spoons, bamboo, etc... Today, however, the 60 mile per hour wind gusts are taking a toll on the chimes! It's a bit of a cacophony out there! I also have two small ones that hang in my kitchen windows to catch the easterly breeze on it's way into the house, and another small one in the bedroom that catches the breeze from the west.

PS Jenny, I love the way you think outside the box! One of those little Christmas ornament stands would work too, if the chime were small enough. |

I wonder if one of those "banana hanger" things they sell would work to hang a small windchimes..like for a desk?

Okay, Kim, my curiousity is running away with me... where on your desk do you hang a windchime in which your foot could reach it? Off the side, low? I do have a little feng shui type windchime that's an extra... and I could try bringing it to work.. but I'm sorta stumped about where to hang it. I think I would need a hook off the wall or something ... can't wait to hear how you're doing it! We've been having alot of wind lately (and heavy mountain snows.... halleluja!!!), so my new outdoor windchime has really been blessing me with its beautiful sounds. Soothing in these rather troubling times.

I have a windchime hanging from my desk at work. Every once in awhile I'll tap it so I can hear the soothing sounds. Several of us have them and of course there are people who dislike them, but I try not to bonk mine too often or too loud. I did accidentally hit it with my foot today. THAT got everyones attention !

Wind chimes are hanging from my screen porch roof eaves right now and making a racket as this wind and rain storm batters them about. The sound is similar to that of a marina before the storm when the wind kicks up and all the bells and chimes are banging and clanging a sort of warning to prepare, like bell buoys in the harbor. Funny how these same chimes under a gentle breeze have a clear bell like tone that is just wonderfully soothing on a clear day.
We used to have a whirligig outside our bedroom window of a goose and his arms would spin around and sound like the geese and it would drive my husband crazy. When we moved we left it behind and the first few months we couldn't get used to no sound of geese!
Now we have an old shop keepers bell on our door so everytime someone comes in the bell rings! It's funny how we are comforted by not only sight and smell but certain sounds!

I am also a windchime fan. I have a set of tuned wind chimes above the door into my shop pole building so that when anyone comes in or just opens the door to holler up and see if i am there I will hear it and know someone is looking for me. They sound wonderful, a lot better than a door bell. Also have bamboo ones outside as well as a set I made from shells I found on the beach. There is a man in eastern washington who makes the ones out of old silver flatware and I am planning to get a set of them next time I see him at a show or next time I am in Spokane.

I love windchimes! In fact, I have a set of 24" chimes inside my house - I know - everyone who comes in looks at it and then looks at me like don't you know these belong outside in the wind?
Here in the south, the wasps like to build little muddauber nests inside the tubes and then the sound is ruined and the wasps are hard to remove. So I put my most beautiful chimes in my house and when I pass by I ring them myself to hear the lovely sound. My granddaughter loves to ring them - loudly!
Ouside in the garden I use the type that do not have long tubes. That sound is beautiful, too. My daugther brought me a set when she returned from her honeymoon in Hawaii - they are made of wood and have a lovely sound too.
There is an artist here that makes windchimes from old pieces of sterling silver cutlery, spoons and forks. It makes a tinkling beautiful sound too, but my favorites are the ones that are tuned to sound like a cathedral, like the ones in my front hall.

I just love windchimes and my mom always had them when I was growing up. I have a small one, but it is messed up from the high winds we get here. I would love to find more ..the long ones sound wonderful!! I wish we had that gentle breeze..seems like it is either still or howling wind here!! Maybe I could hang some on my kitchen porch..has 3 walls) and see if they get enough wind to make sounds...yours sound wonderful!!
