We get to go to a barttering party tonight. This is sort of a weird white elephant type of thing.
If you have never been to one it is where you take stuff to trade and you try to see who is the best at providing value to others.
This is typically the person with the most items at the end of the night as most people wanted to trade with that one person.

We will be tradeing my talent to cut silhouettes. Silhouettes are black paper portraits on a white backgroud. Cut freehand no tracing is aloud. You do it typically while the person is standing or sitting in front of you. I will take photos and mail them back to people in the interest of time.

Sunshine, your silhouettes are so perfect and beautiful. I have a friend who collects antique silhouettes. I'm going to see if she would want you to do her family for her collection.

A barter party is such a great idea. At church, we just did a few years of "secret sister" and we stopped because you can only get so many presents, but now we could start monthly barter parties. Thanks for such a good idea.

over 100 families went it was a sit dwn dinner and guest speakers ( then karioki I watched did not participate)then the trading began. My kids each had 20 suckers to trade and any where from 23-30 bracelets each that they spent all day making to trade. Their items fit in three tiny ziplock bags on the way home their items fit in a hugh tote bag. They got vegtables for mom, hand made cards, pez, other goodies like chocolate covered strawberries, pastries ( nice ones),journals, pins, hand made blow gun for shoting people with marshmellos, glow sticks for neck and head, home made salt dough 4 bags of it ( oh my ). sunglasses, popscicles, soda pop, juice boxes, and their list goes on. I and my husband had more fun watching them run from table to table. We traded 4 times once for a set of cd's that normally cost 100.00, once for a dinner out with 3 -4 other couples ( a date in other words no kids), Our yard mowed ( no small task trust me), and lastly a wood plaque that will read "Families are Forever" it will be dark red brickish in color( red is one of my favorite colors and the lettering will be black ( one of my other favorite colors) . Then there was more music more Karioke. The party went from 6-10 pm

This really does sound like such a great idea - we all have unique talents, and a "barter party" just seems like the perfect forum to share them in. Sunshine - how did it go?

Isn't it funny how this is so rare now?? When not so long ago bartering was how most people got things they couldn't make themselves....Now we all live as slaves to the "All-mighty dollar."

It sounds like alot of fun.
Sunshine, let us know what you get in trade for your artwork.

Well doesn't that sound fun!! I love to barter. At our sale on Saturday I bartered for a crystal and pearl bracelet I wanted. The jewelry gal picked from my things and we both went home happy! We have been talking about doing this at our October Farmgirls meeting.

sunshine .. those are great! the 'bartering parties' .. i have been to .. have been for hand-made rag dolls. at each doll club gathering, we would all bring our dolls .. and we could 'trade' .. or 'buy' dolls from each other.

we also had really fun 'penny auction' fund raisers for our doll club. we'd each bring 3 to 5 things to 'auction' .. the money raised went towards bringing teachers to our doll club.

such fun! xoxo

In an email I was asked to I sell this type of work. Yes.
This is actually an item I am happy to sell they are $25.00 a piece all I need is a good side profile picture. You can email it to me or post it here or snail mail it. But it needs to be very clear and a very plain back ground like a white wall so I can see the profile well try not to have shadows on the wall as that messes up what I can see. In other words don't stand right next to the wall have a good 3 to 5 feet between it and you.

They are beautiful!

The whole idea of the Bartering Party sounds like fun. I have been looking for some fun ideas for winter get togethers. This summer of group of us women have been getting together at ones pool. It has been a great social time, with no kids. We have all been talking about what we could do over winter to keep it up, this might be a fun thing for us to do, as many of us have a variety of skills.

In real life they are only about three inches tall.
I tried reducing them in photobucket it didn't want to work oh well.
I guess they will just have to stay large.

i'll post them on the blog so they will be smaller and easier to see.

update posted on blog came out much better there much easier to see
