So, at our house the preparations start today. I have to pace myself due to physical restrictions and this year TWO bum hands because I am going to have thumb surgery on both in 2012 - but, I digress.

The cleaning and chopping of celery, onions, etc. will start. Chex mix will be made and SAMPLED. I will mix up the injection "syrup" for the turkey to the flavors can develop. Boil eggs for deviled eggs.

What will you be up to? oh, and THE HAPPIEST AND YUMMIEST OF THANKSGIVINGS TO ALL YOU FARMGIRLS!

My goodness, we are an organized bunch!! I didn't get as much prep done as I had hoped . . . I was fasting for a blood draw and it made it difficult to be around all that food without popping something into my mouth without thinking! Plus, I was hungry and CRANKY. Glad that is over with! Now on to the rest of the prep today -- plus some the before-guests cleaning!

It is so nice to hear the excitement everyone has in preparing a special meal to share with loved ones. . .

We are going to my Auntie's on Thursday as is tradition. I am not sure what I will bring there. I usually bring something that everyone scoffs at (organic, vegetarian and locally procured) but eventually tries and loves...

To Travis' step mom on Friday is where we will go and I am bringing wildrice stuffed butternut squash on request :-) I am pleased about that :-)

Well I chopped onions and celery, made 4 pons of cornbread for my dressing, took the hens and turkey out of the freezer to the fridge. Tomorrow will mix the dressing, assemble the casseroles and bake my pies. I love cooking for Thanksgiving. May everyone be blessed by all your hard work!

Mmmmmm, I love the pumpkin loaf breakfast. My girls love pumpkin waffles so maybe we will enjoy that Thursday morning. Turkey is thawing here so tomorrow morning I can start brining. Making a choclate pecan pie and cranberry sauce tomorrow too.

Brilliant! Reading this I just realized I could chop up onions and celery in advance (duh!). Great idea! I was going to make a pumpkin loaf tonight for our breakfast on Thursday morning. My main advance prep is going to be tomorrow. I was going to be making 2 pumpkin and 2 pecan pies but I just got a text that my nephew came down with the flu last night and it's doubtful that my sister and the rest of her family will now be making the trip. That just brought down my total from 8 to 4. I guess I'll just be making 1 pumpkin and 1 pecan pie now. And I guess I wont be having to come up with bedding for 4 extra people.

Good boy Hobbs! I love and miss you.

I was actually just talking about this with my best girlfriend and she's jealous now LOL!!

I'm making at least 2 pies to take to my sister in law's family's house. Normally, we'd be with Momma's family in Austin or Round Rock, but it just isn't the same any more without Momma's sister . My sister in law graciously invited us (me, Momma and Old Man) to spend Thanksgiving at her family's house, which I think may be good! Old Man can get a chance to spend more time with my brother and get to know him better (and hopefully get over the kdiney beans in chili debaucle).

SO I am making apple and pumpkin. I'm roasting the pumpkins tonight and probably getting the crusts assembled to set in the fridge overnight. I'm all KINDS of excited because a family friend of Old Man taught me a new trick for my pie crusts, and apparently, Miss Sam does NAWT do that. I tried it the other night in a pot pie and it worked so well, I want to make the pies right now!

I will also be making my own whipped cream. I just wish I'd had time to make my own vanilla :( But maybe next year!

Maybe I will also start my new apron before Thanksgiving, too! WEE!

Today, put the oven on self-clean, remove the turkey and ham from the freezer to the fridge. Tomorrow morning, put turkey and ham out to finish thawing, bake the cornbread, boil the eggs, chop eggs, celery, green onions, make 2 pies, and frozen crandberry relish, drive into Houston and pick up DH's Dad. There will be just 3 this year, me, DH and his Dad. First time since I was 15 that I do not have to cook for 12-22 depending on who was coming. I am looking forward to it. Next Monday, I will make the annual batch of cranberry ketsup. I will be trying out some reusable canning lids for the first time.

I will be starting today also, but no stuffing for us, since we are Gluten-free at our house. On tap for today: Cranberry, Apple, Ginger Sauce; Pumpkin Spice muffins made with Coconut and Almond flour; and Apple Cider Soda. Tomorrow I will bake the Pumpkin Pie with Walnut Crust!

Marianne, Wow your meal sounds gourmet! I've got the turkey thawing. I sprouted and dried my grain so now I need to grind it and bake my pies etc. I prefer moist rather than dry bread dressing so I usually make it on thanksgiving (having two ovens is a blessing). I think this is going to be a busy week for everyone. But a good one as we actually think about and voice all that we have to be thankful for.

Excuse the mess & the noise, my children are making happy memories
