Angie-emtmommy5, told me about this co-op. It's going to save me a lot of $. I was trying to figure out how to stop shopping at chain stores, not clip coupons, which are for mostly processed foods, and still save $
For example: 12oz of Quaker steel cut oats are $3.50 on a good day.
2 lbs of ORGANIC steel cut oats was $3.50
Everything comes pre-packaged in a box for you. You are in charge of your order, and you pay online! NO SHIPPING FEE. You just show up and a trucker says: Here ma'am.

That's great. When I was living in Idaho, I went to that particular Asian market and bought $30 worth of hot sauce for DH, and they gave me free tea! If you want to buy fake Louis Vitton there, tell the lady behind the counter, Christine sent you! HA!quote:

Trish, I went to the Asian grocery at by the Fred Meyer on 82nd. It was fun. I bought several things. One was yakisoba noodles. I made a stir fry dish that was very good. I also bought a BIG package of spring rolls...there must have been at least 24 rolls in it and the package was only $1.49!!!
I decided to give the produce stand on 82nd and Foster another try. They were nice. Some good deals too...Asian pears for 33 cents per pound. Apples and other pears for 69 cents a pound.

Oh,
I forgot to mention, there is a big red barn in NE, I think 122nd, maybe, that has wonderful, inexpensive produce, and they are nice there. And they always have fingerling potatoes :) It's across from K mart. I'll ask my friendthe exact location, when I talk to her.quote:

Trish! I know you have lived in Portland when you say "Felony Flats"! LOL...believe me things haven't changed much in that area. :)
Unfortunately the fruit stand on 82nd and Foster is now owned by some one else. Last time I went in there I got ticked off because I picked some stuff out of the reduced stuff. Go to the Vietnamese fruit stand on Foster & 82nd, it is in the split in Foster, right next to Fred Meyer. When you're done there, head right across 82nd to a GIANT red building, it is one of my favorite Asian stores ever! Super cheap. I am an expert ant being broke in Portland. If you are ever in Felony Flats, there is a Franz outlet at Johnson Road, right before the big curves, that get you to Milwaukie.quote:

Thanks to you all for the great suggestions on ways to get good food at better prices, without going to the store. I am on a very limited budget and am trying to save to buy a house. Maybe these places will help!

Trish- You should also check into Bountiful Baskets (bountifulbaskets.org) THey have a drop point at Bonney Lake elementary. It's available in alot of places in the US. They do fresh fruit and veggie baskets for $15. You can order a completely organic basket for $10 more. I am getting my first one this weekend. I have heard great things about that coop program too!
Plus... look Zaycon foods (online) for meat. I ordered my first time last month. Boneless skinless chicken breast for $1.49 a pound. It comes in a 40# box. Such good chicken! They have other meat offerings throughout the year.
It's another thing where you have to be at the drop point at a certain time to pick things up.... just like the bountiful baskets and Azure. I am getting to the point where I rarely have to set foot in a "real" grocery store. It's great! Such better food and better prices.

I called Azure Standard, and they gave me all of the active drop points. It took a few calls before I found one about ten minutes from my house. The person in charge of the drop will have a route # that you need to order. Then place your order. My lady in charge calls everyone an hour to 30 minutes before. It is apparently near the same time of day, each month, or two weeks, depending on your co-op.quote:

I love Azure Standard! I think their prices are very competitive. And for those of us who live in the boonies...it is wonderful!

I've looked at Azure a few times, but have never tried it. Did you need to call in to find a drop point? I'm sure there are some around here as we live just outside of Portland.
I saw your post on my other thread and I'm definitely interested in their stuff. My middle son absolutely loves mac and cheese. We don't do Kraft, but some of the other stuff we like can get so expensive!
Is there anything you've gotten that you haven't cared for?
