Bring out the butter churn!! I was "Breakfast Mom" for the the boys after their big "house show" last night. (6 bands- all playing in my friend's house. Thank goodness it wasn't mine.) But, I got breakfast duty. So, after a big breakfast of eggs, bacon, blueberry pancakes homemade doughnuts and orange juice, these boys needed some exercise!
Nathan, my oldest, pulled out the butter churn and after a round of questions, we all decided that making butter would be just the ticket. For close to an hour, I had 10 boys (ages 19-24) turning the handle, checking the progress, laughing and showing off their muscles. It was hilarious!! Even the kids who were not really sure what to think pitched right in. Everyone tasted the buttermilk and had bread and butter on top of everything else they ate! We are now known as The Low-Tech Family. But we sure have fun. And the best thing? I got to cross off making butter from my list without having to do it myself!!

Hahaha Karin! I read the title of this and thought of "boys" about the ages of 6 to 8 year olds! How funny! We entertain my son's bandmates all the time but NEVER has it crossed my mind to get out the butter churn! Next time they are here I'll remember to pull it of the shelf and give everyone a turn! Still chuckling!

Erin - I have a Lehman's Best butter churn that my son gave to me for my birthday. Look for it on Lehmans.com . I really like how it churns. Very smooth and quiet.
Jenny- I hope that you get one for your birthday or Christmas. You will be making lots of "Mona butter" for sure!!

MMMMM homemade doughnuts...I love that. I OWE my kids that!
What a fun breakfast and memory you made for them Karin! I love being thought of as low-tech...and my kids have always loved making butter...I think kids of all ages do. I am so dying to get a butter churn though..we are still doing the shaking a jar method. Maybe for my birthday or Christmas.

Karin! That sounds like SO much fun!!! It is so nice to know that even in a high-tech world, the low-tech, genuinely GOOD things still hold as much staying power as they ever did. I'll bet it was the best butter any of those boys had ever tasted.
Congratulations on the breakfast, too - it sounds delicious... In fact, it's making me want some bacon and homemade doughnuts right now, at almost 10:30pm!
