Picking up an idea off another thread, I thought I'd see if there's some more sci-fi watching farmgirls.

I recently finished Firefly and the Serenity movie. I am a few episodes into Farscape...meh...not as good. I watched the first episode of Deep Space Nine. And of course I've watched most episodes of the old Star Trek. It was something to do with DH and I could knit/crochet at the same time. I definitely have a new appreciation for Sci-fi when I used to not like it at all.

What sci-fi are you girls watching?

I am a Sci-Fi fan for sure. I have loved Star Trek since it first came on. My favorite movie of all time is "The Day the Earth Stood Still" the black and white version. I will watch it when it comes on...Not very often I might say. I hated what they have done with the Sci-Fi channel. Because i dont think wrestling is Sci-Fi. And I hate all those ghost things coming on TV now...I think it is a bunch of crap. People that make fun of stuff like that are going to have a bad time when something attaches it to them...But REAL Sci-Fi they have put on the back burner..i am so glad I married a man that loves it as much as I do..

Oh boy I am a Sci-Fi and Horror Girl. I remember when I was a young girl going to my local TV station and protesting when they took Star Trek off TV.. My favorite is all the Aliens movies - my son remembers me taking him to the opening at the movie theather, sitting on my lap and screaming... I know what kind of mom am I - one who loves all types of Sci-Fi and Horror and would rather have to pluck my eye lashes out then see a "Girls Movie"....

Darleen, I was about to type the same thing. I grew up on the original and have photos and diagrams of the original ship still. Ok, I'm a geek and I admit it. I love sci fi and fantasy, as I write fantasy. The new BG didn't catch me though, as I felt it was too much American military. Watched the Star treks, and all the other shows listed. Earth 2 was interesting while it was on and have the original V series and some old Doctor Who's on DVD.

Not really into horror and that seems to be a big part of the sci-fi channel, but am glad for Eureka and a few other shows.

I agree Jen, SG-1 was the very best! I still can't believe they canceled such a superb and highly rated show. I have become a fan of "Sanctuary" so at least we get to watch Amanda Tapping every week still.

We were huge Battlestar fans too and watched it faithfully every week when it was on.

I'm a purist. There is no Stargate unless it's SG:1 or the movie :)

Unless I missed it somewere, I don't think anyone mentioned Battlestar Galactica! Love it! Never watched it while it was on TV--on a lark, just checked the first disc out at the library and got hooked!

Eureka and Warehouse 13. . .yes, definitely. BBC America had for one or two seasons a show called Life on Mars; really, really enjoyed that too.

Stargate Universe was really good; hate they canceled it.

Great thread. . .thanks for starting!

It's the main reason I'm so hooked on Mass Effect :( Simply an amazing story all around.

My husband and I are both huge Sci-Fi fans. We loved watching the cable Sci-Fi channel until they decided to run horror movies all the time.

All the Star Trek, Dr. Who, Star Gate SG-1, Star Gate Atlantis, etc. books, movies, you name it!

Julie, I always wonder what kind of popsicle stick and flour paste "high tech" construction causes SPARKS TO FLY out of touchscreen interfaces and monitors whenever the hull takes any kind of blow.... OSHA would have a flipping fit that they didn't take precautions to ground those electrical surges or something.

That's funny about the inside joke on the ST series. DH and I have one where we think the whole crew is really completely incompetent (ship's always breaking, shoot first ask questions later, always sent on missions far far away from the rest of the Federation), but THEY think they're such experts they get sent on these dangerous missions.

I also liked Fringe and Lost. DH is a huge Harry Harrison fan and likes reading.

Alee,
Cowboy bebop was alright, I also liked Ghost In the Shell (the old movie, not standalone complex...) and Urusei Yatsura was always great! Sci Fi is big in anime but it seems like 90% of them involve a giant robot piloted by a 14 year old LOL. My anime tastes usually bend toward long running dramas like Maison Ikkoku and Nana.

LOVE SciFI,I grew up with Star Trek and all of the others, it is really fascinating to see how the special effects have evolved. I am also, a long-time member of the Science Fiction book club, they had a tiny blurb recntly that The Dragonriders of Pern will be a movie soon, really looking forward to, since I have all of the books. People ask why I read SciFi and my answer is "Hope, no matter how bad it starts there is always hope and good wins in the end"

Like I mentioned in the other thread, hubby and I are on the last season of ST:Voyager. I enjoyed deep space 9 and next gen quite a bit but I'm probably too young to appreciate original star trek for all the groundbreaking it did, I just see it as exceedingly cheesy. Deep space 9 and voyager are a toss up over my favorite trek series. DS:9's dominion war made for some really engaging plots, but Voyager has it's own interesting plot devices and I get a kick out of the "below the surface" plot lines.

For example the relationship between Captain Janeway and Chakotay, her first officer. They start out as distrusting of one another, then become friends, then the body language and plain as day jealousy begins to indicate that they cross into a deeper mutual connection, and then their not quite courtship launches into an on again, off again roller coaster as they continue clash on a professional level as situations arise where they disagree greatly over the next 6 years. Hubby and I have an "in" joke where we announce during an episode weather they are "back together" or "broke up....again" when they interact in a room together.

My other science fiction love is Mass Effect!!!! Best scifi franchise ever!!!!

but it's a video game.... http://youtu.be/BnEej1RfqTs.
It's a trilogy of 3 games, you play as Commander Shepard, the first human specter in the new inter-planetary community. Man, Woman, hero or renegade. Selfless or selfish, cruel or merciful. It's all your decision and every decision impacts the galaxy in some way, and the biggest decisions change EVERYTHING. It's like a series of interactive movies. (And if you're not the most adept game player, the easy setting was made to get you to the story bits.)

I loved the original Star Trek (saw them all on reruns), watched The Next Generation, and saw all of the movies with the original cast. I went to one Star Trek Convention years ago and have a lot of the books that were written in the 80s and 90s. Not into too much other Sci-Fi, but I love reading Fantasy....David Eddings, Piers Anthony, etc.

Ginny--I grew up with three brothers who all watched ST. In jr. high, my brother and his two best friends would all wear their StarTrek shirts (like the ones on the original episodes) on the same day. He was a member of the fan club and had models, books, and once even made some Tribbles. He still watches it and is it any wonder he majored in computer science? Star Trek was an inspirational show.

I can't say I'm a big Sci Fi girl but see most of it because of my DH. I love Eureka though and am sad to hear it's ending next year. Also love to watch Fringe and Warehouse 13! I am married to a Sci Fi NERD so I've seen all Star Trek shows and all their episodes (Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Next Generation, Enterprise), all the ST movies, all the Star Wars movies, and my house is filled with Star Trek & Star Wars stuff! We even have a seperate Christmas tree with nothing but Star Trek or Star Wars ornaments on it! How's that for overkill, lol!

Growing up my daughter was sucked into the Sci Fi world by her Dad and everytime we went to the city to Toys R Us they would both have to have their own carts and they'd buy their own figurines. Same with comics and all the books that are Sci Fi. David still has trunks full of them unopened. Think of the guys on the Big Bang and that's my husband, lol! And yet, his real day job is running our County Jail, go figure.

I like all the Star Trek shows, and I also liked Alien Nation when it ran many years ago. Sorry to see that show go.

I love Sci-fi.

I watched some Fringe? I used to watched "Lost". Also lots of Sci-fi movie. Mostly I watched Sci-fi movies On-demand.

I like all of the various Star Treks, I didn't care for Firefly tho'. It just didn't grab me. I like more human based Sci-Fi rather than all machine (or whatever) based sci-fi. I loved the movie Avatar and see most sci-fi or fantasy films when they come out.

Happy Autumn!
