Got to the farthest corner and had my breath taken away!! The view is beyond gorgeous!! I had to stand and look out over the fields for quite a while, taking it in.

I'd never had time before to truly scope the place out. I also found another gate in the fence.

Found quite a bit of sage growing. It looks like it might be the big leafed variety. Will bind some up and put in the house. We have smoke alarms so can't smudge but the clumps will give a nice smell.

Now, if I can only figger out what to do with the, literally, million pinecones on the ground.

For this year only, we are using an oil stove. When we found out that 100 gallons was $414, we decided that next year, the wood stove goes in. We can cut wood for cheap and have plenty of room to stack.

Since we're on the road most of the time, the oil maybe be sufficient for this winter.

Looking out over the land and thru our trees, over the hay farm next door, it almost has a timeless feel to it. Kind of like the old Masters paintings of lanscapes, if that makes sense.

On top of that, it's so quiet I can almost hear my heartbeat. Our neighbors siad they never know when we're home and vice versa. The forest dampens the sounds.

Do you have a firelace? Pinecones make great starter. Gosh, your property sounds breathtaking...

Congratulations on your new property! I have such fond memories of when we got our little farm a few years ago. It still takes my breath away when the sun shines through the trees at just the right angle :) Enjoy it!!

Thanks for the ideas for the pinecones. I thought of bagging them and selling but Albertson's sells the bags for really cheap, probably to help get people in the door.

Maybe I could put an autumn smell with glitter and offer that way??

We moved into our new property in February and I'm still walking around it in awe! Can't believe our great fortune. I know you will do likewise.

Those pinecones make great firestarters. Melt some beeswax then dip the pine cones in. Not only do they start your fires easily they smell heavenly! Great gift idea if you don't need them.

Congratulations!

Audrey

Winona,
Congrats! and as for the pinecones.....even if you have a gazillion.... you'll luv them for:
kindling in the firepit, stuffed w/cotton to create lil mini Christmas trees,,, covered w/glitter a'la Martha Stewert, or just a dozen or so laid in a basket or bowl on the table for decoration... oh & fyi, if you are going to use them for deco, use an old crappy cookie sheet, place as many as will fit, pinecones, & heat/bake in the oven at 2oo degrees for about 15 min to get rid (kill) of any lil pesky bugs inside the cones,, the heat also dries out the cones and gives a slight shine.
Now go grab your 'Honey's hand", a sturdy basket & go pinecone gathering, after all, Autumn will be here before you know it! :>)
