For the last two days, I have been on my knees (in knee pads) laying a ceramic tile floor in a lovely sun/breakfast room that my DH has built for me. I have blisters on my knees and blisters on my hands and I have decided that my body hates me, but all but just the outside perimeter is laid (have to let it dry so I can stand on the tiles to finish the edges). So this evening I have that good kind of tired that comes from working hard on something and watching it come together! And it's cool outside! I think it's the coolest since last May. No triple digit temps for the first time in months. What a good day. Here's a picture of what is done so far. Fortunately, my DH put a window air conditioner in for me because I was sweating! The heat pump hasn't been installed yet. He has done all of the work but the floor is my baby. :-)

Thanks, ladies. Well, you want to hear how smart I am? NOT!! We are having a wood stove installed today in this room, hence the floor HAD to be finished by today. I got to thinking that I don't want the stove sitting directly on my pretty new tile and and the installers said that they were going to bring this ugly black pad sooooooo I decided to make my OWN pad of the same tile. My DH glued two pieces of hardybacker board together (cement board) and cut it to the shape I wanted. He asked if I wanted it carried to the new room where I could work on it on the a piece of plywood over the new tile, but I told him no, that I thought I would do it on my project table in the den so I wouldn't have to bend over and kill my back even more. It fit right on top of the table. Now, that cement board is heavy and it took both of us to get it situtated onto the table. It never occurred to me that it would get even heavier when I put tile on top of it!! Duh!!! I opted not to grout it until we got it to the new room because that would have added even more weight! You should have seen us struggling to get the board on its end onto a furniture dolly and then trying to navigate it through the house without it tipping over. Lucy would have been proud! We finally got it to the room and onto a piece of plywood where I was to finish grouting. Only we realized that we were out of grout and it was 30 minutes until Lowe's closed!! We jumped into the car and flew to town which is 25 minutes away by intersate and I walked into the store just before they shut the doors. Got home, grouted the pad, washed it and went to bed at midnight. But it is all ready for the installers today! Here's a picture of the pad on the table.

Beautiful!

Could you come to Muncie Indiana and do my floor?
You did a super job! Your hubby sounds like a keeper.
He must really be proud of you.

Don't go with the flow...you are the flow.

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Wow, what a great space! Once you have completed everything, I know you will enjoy using it for many different things! Not only are you an expert in fresh ground grain bread, you can lay tile as well!! A true FarmGirl multi-tasker!! Please give us a photo update when the wood stove gets placed as that will make the area so homey and useful in Oakie winters. Congratulations!

Thank you Laurie and Debbie. I was actually just saying to my hubby tonight that we could sleep in this room in the summer AND the winter on occassion. We are having a small wood stove installed this next weekend and so if the electricity goes out (as usual in Okie winters) we could just shut off that room and stay in it! And the idea of the windows being opened and the sound of crickets and tree frogs going to sleep. Sounds wonderful!!

Nice work Mary Beth! Congratulations on your sunroom...I'm sure you will really enjoy it once it is complete. I have one that I actually made into my own little "MaryJane" style sleeping porch this summer. SO nice to sleep out there and be surrounded by windows on all sides and feel like you are sleeping outside (minus the mosquitos!).
Thanks for sharing. Theres really nothing like that feeling of accomplishment- even though your body aches it still brings you joy!
Smiles,

~Laurie
