My daughter talked me into going to see The Help on Friday. Wow. Right up there with Fried Green Tomatoes and even maybe better. Absolutely loved the music, the homes, cars and decor, the outfits the glasses...you name it. I was swept back into my childhood. Could have left out some of the language but it was true to the time period. I remember my grandfather talking that way. Anyway, loved it. And I came away dying for a cold, bottled coke and a chocolate pie. You will too. I put a recipe for our old-fashioned chocolate pie at the blog. It's like what Minny made minus her secret ingredient!! Not a cream pie by any stretch of the imagination. :-)

If you've seen the movie, what'd you think?

Hi Mary Beth, glad you liked the movie! I haven't seen it yet, but I may try to go down to Moore to see it. I didn't realize they had a old movie theater.

I just finished the book and loved it! I will await the DVD also, as we have no movie theaters close to us. I am glad to hear it mirrors the book closely, the book was so full of wonderful nuances!

It's a great book and movie. But just enjoying the good writing and acting isn't enough. The theme and content of the story is so important. I remember "colored" restrooms, back of the bus, women who called their maid "my girl", even if the maid was her elder by 20 years. I don't mean to preach, but is such an important lesson from our recent past.

On the wait list at the library for the book . . . can't wait now that I hear how much everyone loved it!

Such a great movie! Just saw it this past weekend with my mom, definitely worth the $10 ticket, and I will most likely be buying it on DVD. Mary Beth, I am heading over to check out your chocolate pie recipe :) Thanks for sharing!

Karen, if you liked the book, you'll love the movie. My mom read the book and said that it stayed closer than most movies to the original.

So glad to hear you like it...A LOT! I am going tomorrow night with my husband. We both 'listened' to book and can not wait to see what all the fuss is about with the movie (being as good as the book). Our library book club is on the bag of books list and I am hoping we can get it before the movie leaves the theater. Funny, after reading the book my husband and I went to Cracker Barrel for Coca Cola cake and now I can look forward to Chocolate pie after the movie :-)

I haven't seen it yet, but hope to this weekend. I recently got the book as well, and only heard good things about both.
