Not saying that Arizona is bad... but I'm not there and good grief!! Not only was it 113 today, but my DH has killed two rattlesnakes in a 24 hour period. I'm scared to go pick okra!! This is NOT normal!!

We had a really bad drought about 8 or so years ago I had to sell the cows off because I could not buy hay and my pasture went to dust.I had animals coming in and chewing up my garden hoses and trying to get into the pasture to get my goats and chickens water. I set out shallow pans of water at the end of our yard where the woods started. This kept the creatures like snakes, skunks, possom, racoons and other animals from coming close to the house. Every morning I would go out and the pans would be empty. I would walk around with a bucket of water and refill them. I know its sounds crazy but I felt sorry for all the animals.

I pray you get rain soon.

I just talked to my Dad in Kansas today and he said that it's been over 100 degrees for 40 consecutive days this summer in the wichita area. He said it was 113 a day or so ago. I grew up in hot Kansas, but this summer seems to be taking the cake. They finally got an inch and a half of rain last night. It was so dusty in July and that was my biggest souvenir that I brought home with me to MN! Ha!! My car has had rain storms, car washes and it's still oozing good ole Kansas dirt! Glad it's not oozing snakes! Yikes!!! Be careful sweet ladies!

I feel very blessed living here in north Idaho, although we had such a long wet cold spring that some fields were too soggy to plant! 113!?!?!?! I'd wilt and blow away! Wow! Please be careful in the heat and try to stay hydrated.

Although I do feel sorry for the thirsty shade seeking snakes, Please be careful! Wear boots and carry a darned big stick! I'm worried about all of you living through such hot dry weather.
I'm praying and hoping that things cool down soon for everyone and that rain comes as well.

Hugs and cool breezes!

Whoa. It's always sobering when something written and preserved thousands of years ago has such modern applications.

Laurie, you made me think of something when you mentioned what this drought is making creatures do..the other day, I read this sad article about how many fawns are being found emaciated, dehydrated or dead because the mamas have been abandoning them. There's not enough grass or water for the does to produce milk for their babies. The rescue centers are overflowing. The story really struck me. So, the next day, I was doing my Bible study. I am in Jeremiah and this is what I read, concerning a drought that God had brought on Israel to get its attention: "The ground is cracked because there is no rain in the land; the farmers are dismayed and cover their heads. Even the doe in the field deserts her newborn fawn because there is no grass." Wow.

All of you please be careful!! This is so scary about the rattlesnakes seeking water and cool spots right where you live!!!!!! We are all praying for water to come your way as it has been a horrible summer for so many states. Just please, please be careful as we don't want any of our MJF friends hurt trying to pick the garden or simply be in the wrong place at the wrong time! This worries me!!!!!

Well, I guess that is what is happening here, then. Our pond has dried up totally and there is no other water around. It was 113º today and we haven't seen rain in so long. I think that Texas is even worse. So I guess we'd better move the dog bucket. I'm afraid to let the dogs outside!

Mary Beth, we're experiencing the same type of weather here in Texas. And to make matters worse we're in an extreme drought. Water moccasins are coming up drinking out of dogs dishes looking for water because so many ponds have dried up around here. I pray we'll have a wet winter.

Melody, it's possible, but they also seem to be looking for cool. The first one several weeks ago was trying to come into the house. The two last night and today were under the dog's watering bucket where it is cool.

Ack! Are you sure you didn't go to sleep in one place and get magically transported to another?? If so, you'd better go back to bed. ;) Hope the heat dies off a bit (or a lot!) for you!
