My sister introduced me to a program called Couch to 5k. In 9 weeks it is supposed to help you get ready to run a 5k… and yes I really did mean run!! I have spent all day programming a Pandora Radio station to play faster tempo songs that will encourage me to run and I downloaded an app that gives you the cues as to when to walk and run. I am going to try it!!

Elizabeth, I do live in the Milwaukee area! I actually just ran my first 5K today at GermanFest. I finished in 48:20, which was a little slower than I had hoped, but I finished!

Hey Alee,

I started running just last year and at first couldn't run more than half a mile without walking. I ran my first 5k last summer and thought I would never be able to run farther than 3.1 miles. But I ran two half-marathons this spring and am contemplating trying a full marathon next year!

I guess what I'm trying to say is no matter how out of shape you are now, it doesn't take long to get into shape if you keep at it. Running is addictive though so take good care of yourself, you won't be able to stop. :)

I'm in Alee and Elizabeth! It'd be great motivation for me to actually do it!

Sure! Maybe we should start a new thread for check-ins and encouragement. I just got one of those bike carts for Rosemary to ride in and so we have been biking more, but we sure could bust out the jogging stroller more!

Ladies, you all rock! I can't wait to get going on this program with you! This is going to be fantastic!! I am going to warm up for a week with just walking since I have been so sedentary. Should we post our workouts here?

Alee, I'm running my first 5K tomorrow, but I've just been running, nothing hardcore, specific for 5K training. I think I'll join this little group of people trying it! I want to run another one in September, but with a little more training!

I have done that with great results, but it has been a while. If you need a motivational partner we should team up...I need to get me rear in gear too!

http://runningintoshape.com/ I love this blog. She has podcasts with great music and tells you when to run and when to walk.

It's also a C25K program.

Good luck!

Cool! I think it would be so neat to get up and get in shape before winter! I went for a 2.68 mile walk the other night and was shocked at how out of shape I am in. Now is the time to get in shape because I can't take back time that has already passed and there is no reason to keep waiting for a better time. :)
