Posted - Jul 21 2011 : 09:55:07 AM Just before we left on our Farmgirls on the Loose Road Trip I received my July 2011 issue of "SUNSET" Magazine. What timing for the article titled "The West's Best Roadtrip Food: Eat Local on the Go"
Lucky for my daughter, Robin and me, we were able to actually GO to some of the places listed AND enjoy what they had to offer. EVERY BIT OF IT WORTH THE STOP!!!!
First stop was: "Lupita's Cantina", in Oak Creek, Colorado The tacos ABSOLUTELY the best!!! We had the shrimp and beef selections . . . like nothing I've ever had.

2nd stop; "The Big Dipper" in Missoula, MT It's WALK-UP to the best ice cream treats in exquisite flavors. WOWIE - ZOWIE!!!
.JPG)
3rd stop: "Hudson's Hamburgers" in Coeur d' Alene Basic burgers! No frills! The BEST old-fashioned burgers! And it's right across the street from MaryJanesFarm store!
.JPG)
And, here is the current Mr. Hudson, who slices onions and pickles right on the spot at record speed . . and makes the patties right there. YUM! (His dad is in the picture on the shelf behind him)

4th stop: "Road Island Diner" in Oakley, UtahAn actual railroad diner car . . a classy one at that. They have great menu but we opted for yummy RID style burgers!!! We got there before it got really busy . . that's why there's no one in this picture . . .yet!

And, the outside . . .before the parking lot filled up!!

Thank you "SUNSET MAGAZINE" for finding these spots for us! Special little highlights to our road trip!

Posted - Jul 24 2011 : 2:32:58 PM A family from Missoula, MT came "shopping" in our vendor booth yesterday at Farmers Market.
I told them I'd been able to experience and enjoy "Big Dipper" . . . they all grinned really big! Then we got to discussing all the different unique flavors and which ones they liked. They get to visit there frequently! CJ

Posted - Jul 21 2011 : 1:57:01 PM Michele . . . I'm so sorry . . . never occurred to me to let you know we were going to Hudsons! Sorry . . it would have been fun to have you with us there TOO!!!! Hopefully we'll be there again! We had fun with Kenny. He was wearing a Hudson's t-shirt, with the logo on the back. We made him turn around and flex his muscles for a photo. And, then later as we were going back to our cars, he came skateboarding up the street on his way home and wished us a good evening. We also got some other photos of Steve . . he was pretending to be timid!
Yup, Denise, I sure do miss my girl!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! CJ

Posted - Jul 21 2011 : 12:31:15 PM I too get Sunset magazines and had read about these places. What a thrill to find out you and Robin really got to go there and try so many of them out. I bet you're really missing that girl of yours.

Posted - Jul 21 2011 : 11:07:56 AM Yeah, Huddy's! I wish I would have known you gals were going there, I would have met you. That's Kenny in the first picture, he's a really nice guy. And Steve, who is in the second picture, is one of the original Mr. Hudson's great-grandson's. I can't eat a steady diet of Huddy's (as my husband and his friends can), but it sure is good once in a while. I've seen the Big Dipper in Missoula and always want to stop but I never seem to have the room in my tummy. Next time, I'm going to plan for it. |
