Today, out of the blue, our little kitty fell over, and then she died in my and my daughter's arms. We wrapped her in a towel and she knew we were there. Her name was Angel and she would have been twenty years old on August 1st. My daughter Audrey will be nine years old tomorrow, and we were in the middle of baking Audrey's birthday cake when we found the cat lying outside her box. Our hearts are broken.

Just wanted to share with my farmgirls, as I have seen so many of your posts just like this.

Hugs,
Nicole

Nicole,
I am so so sorry for the loss of your beloved kitty. It is never easy and words cannot ease the pain, but know that we are sending you love and light.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family. We have had to put down three of our Golden Retrievers and by summers end will probably be putting down another. There's no getting by with not crying for ones loss. It's the only time I've ever seen my DH cry. One of ours was 15 years old and had a long and happy life. He lasted long enough to go with us on a two week vacation to Colorado and when we got home he knew it was his time coming. Giving you ((hugs)) and peaceful thoughts of comfort.

It is so sad to lose a long term pet, and yes it does seem like a member of the family. I was lucky enough in my life to have had two cats that lived very long lives. I can share the hurt that goes through your spirit when you look and they are not there. Our other cats too acted strange, going through the house, looking and meowing for the "lost" one. I have one cat now that is getting on in years and still seems to mourn the loss of his best buddy a couple of years ago. It takes time to heal, and remember anyone that says you should'nt be upset has probably never had a long term relationship like this... lasted longer then some marriages!
texdane Posted - Jul 10 2011 : 7:01:29 PM
Well, I've been kind of a big baby about her. I couldn't look at the posts too much here because the tears would start. A relative said I had to expect it, since she was so old, but honestly, she was healthy, so no. Anyway, worked really hard the last two days to make sure Audrey had a nice birthday, and it was. Very happy. But, when feeding time comes it breaks my heart, and when I walk in the door and she isn't in her favorite chair, it feels very weird. Twenty years is a long time to love a pet. She was so cute and sweet. My other two cats are freaking out, too. Thank you everyone for understanding. Someone said to me that "Pets are our heartbeats at our feet". So true!

Hugs,

Nicole

Oh man....that is so sad- never have lost one at home but have lost them, and it's always painful. Hugs & thoughts of comfort to you & your daughter. You must've given that cat a wonderful home & lots of TLC to reach 20. Tell Audrey I wish her well on her birthday-so tough to lose family on a day that's normally of celebration.

Tears of love and understanding are being sent your way from all corners of the country. You were so blessed to have her for 20 years and I'm sure she's playing somewhere in a meadow in Heaven.

I feel so sad for you. I know this is a hard time. Remember all the joy and wonderful times you had with your kitty. She will be in your heart always even though you will miss her terribly. I am praying for you. Let your tears flow...grieving is what we do when we lose a family member that we love.

Blessings,

Oh no! I am so, so sorry. After 20 years that cat had gotten so much love-I'm sure it was just like losing a family member. :( I'm sure your kitty had a wonderful life. I'm sure that doesn't make it easier, but I'll say a little prayer for kitty as she goes to rainbow bridge.

Be looking for a message from me.

Thank you everyone. Your messages mean so much. Yes, I had her since she was six weeks old. I got her as a wedding present for my husband when we were newlyweds. My childhood kitty didn't like him, and Angel was a good friend for her too. Angel was the sweetest kitty, and I know she waited for me to find her before she left us. Thank goodness we were home. It was really traumatic. I am going to try extra hard to make Audrey's birthday super happy tomorrow.

Thank you again everyone.

Hugs,
Nicole
