It's finally beautiful, perfect summer weather and my DH was off for a few days for Fourth of July...and I got hit with the worst case of strep throat I have ever had (and I seem to get hit hard when I do get it!)Nobody else in the house has it yet, thank goodness, but today is the first day I am upright and not just sleeping. Still have a horrible, horrible sore throat but the fever is not the 102 it was this weekend! So...I'm having a bit of a pity party. But it was nice that DH and DD took such good care of me!

Anybody got any good tips for getting rid of this stuff? I did get an antibiotic from my doctor, which I don't like to take but know sometimes it's necessary, I don't want to infect everyone else. Any other comfort tips? I've been drinking lots of iced tea. I am on the upswing today.

Farmgirl Hugs,

Nicole

Oh Nicole, So sorry you are sick and strep throat hurts so bad. I rely on Throat coat tea and several other medicinal teas to get thru winter. Please finish the antibodics. I got rhematic fever as a teen from an untreated strep throat. Hope you are feeling better soon. Joey

I have that Throat Coat tea and can attest to it's soothing powers. Made by Traditional Medicinals! A great line of teas, that company makes!

There is an all natural tea made called Throat Coat (most stores with an all natural section sell it). It's main ingredient is slippery elm and it really does help! Otherwise the other one i know of is difficult unless you have access to an asian market (take a lemon and slice in half, stick a lihing mui crack seen in each half and let set for a few minutes. Suck on seed and lemon and it cures the sore throat.) really works but the seeds may be difficult to find in your area. Feel better!

...I was going to mention the "Shot of whiskey"...or brandy or schnapps or something like that too. But I didn't want to offend anyone. I'm not a drinker, but I do believe, as my elders did, that a shot of something, plain or in tea, when you are sick, will do you a lot of good! Sure hope you feel better soon Nicole!

Nicole - strep throat sare the worst! Everyone is giving great advice - take your antibiotics (maybe take some acedophelus if your stomach is bothering you), drink plenty of fluids, gargle with salt water, some tea with honey is also good (heck at night put a shot of whiskey in it). Hope you are feeling better soon and are able to enjoy the summer!

Hope today finds you feeling at least some better. I do have a question for you,Had you been swimming at all before you came down with the strep throat?

Oh Nicole- I am so sorry that you have strep throat and that its timing is so poor- just when, as you said, the weather is so nice and hubby being off for a few days. Well at least he is there to occupy your daughter while you rest and get better! I totally agree with what FarmDream said- it is a known FACT that strep can travel- and if left untreated can cause heart damage! (Especially in children) My pediatrician is not one to give antibiotics very easily- but boy oh boy- he sure gives the lecture if one of the kids have strep about how dangerous it can be if left untreated! I hope that you are on the upswing, and I am sure that before you know it you will be back to your old "farmgirl" self again!
Smiles,

Oh wow...you poor girl! Drink-drink-drink. This time of year it's so easy to get dehydrated and not know it...especially since you feel so awful already. But you NEED lots of fluids to flush out the"Cooties" and to keep your "Radiator" cool! That's important!
Take care Farm-Sister!

wash bed pillows and of course pillow cases, every other day, plus complete bedding and air mattress out in sun if possible when you are done with course of antibiotics. FYI, my daughter thought she was getting reoccuring strep throat and it turned out to be food allergys...

Thanks, everyone. I did do the saltwater thing - bleeech! However, it did make my throat temporarily feel less "hot". I am taking the antibiotics, but FarmDream, how do you know if it has traveled to other parts of the body? I knew I would need antibiotics with a case this severe. Can't believe I picked this up like this...I am never sick anymore! Thanks again for letting me vent! Love my farmgirl sisters!

Definitely replace your toothbrush or you could get it again. Please, please, please take your antibiotics! A strep infection can travel to different parts of the body. (just friendly advice from working in a hospital)

Rest, rest, rest! Yeah I know. Easier said than done! Gargling with warm/hot salt water feels good and increases circulation which clears out infection and inflammation. It feels good too. Replace your tooth brush or boil it to sterilize.
Take care and i hope you feel better soon.

Had it last July. Lots of water, tea, and rest. Wish I had better news for you. Antibotics is the only thing that works. Get some good cough drops too for the throat.
