Remember S&H Green stamps? A blogger friend was asking if anyone remembered them. I know I was the one in my house that had to lick them all and put them in the book. Anyway the picture above my sofa is from the green stamp store. I got it from my Aunts house.

I remember my mom using her green stamps to get me a wedding gift. It was either the iron or the toaster. I have been married 25 years and dont remember which one lol |

I still use a metal laundry hamper my grandmother bought with S&H green stamps when I was a little girl. I used to love the ritual of visiting her house, digging out the stamps and putting them in the books. Thanks for the memory!

When I got married, my son's dad bowled for stamps. We used his S&H to get all of our baby supplies: a high chair, stroller, bathtub and our set of "Good China". I had almost forgotten about that. I will have to remember to share with my son.

Nancy, I was cleaning out my china cabinet, drawers and all, the other day so that I could give it to my son, and lo and behold, I found three S&H Green stamp books, one filled and the other empty. Wish I could use them. :-)

Are you talking about the old Betty Crocker cookbook with the little blurbs from "Mrs. So-and-So" at the top of each recipe?
My mother had one growing up and she wouldn't give it up when I got married. I remember she either looked through or bought the new one and it had left out a number of recipes and added microwave recipes.
Fortunately, my mother-in-law had an old one that she gave to me.
I also have the Better Homes and Gardens red-checked one. Shower present, I think. I liked it so much that I bought a paperback copy to take commercial fishing in Alaska as we were there about six weeks every summer. I think I left it there whan I no longer went up with the family.

I got my Betty Crocker Cook book with green stamps my MIL saved. I still have that cookbook but it sure doesn't look new anymore. My very favorite cookbook. All the good old recipes. MB

In a way we have a form of stamps when we buy groceries. We receive points which add up to discounts on gasoline. Safeway and King Soopers both offer this I don't know if other stores do or not. Ten cents off per gallon is almost as good as stamps (no books, no licking, but no choice of product.) However the stamps were fun. Gave kids something to do. It would be great to bring them back.

You got the stamps when buying groceries . . or whatever, from the store that offered them. The number you received was based on the amount of money you spent. They also provided the booklets to put them in. My mom had a catalog that indicated how many "books" of stamps it would take to get whatever she was interesed in.
If I remember right, as a young bride in 1968, I was able to "purchase" my table setting dishes with green stamps. It was fun . .

My late DH was a truck driver for many, many years and every time he fueled his truck, he got a handful of green stamps, when we first got together he brought some in the house and I said "what the heck are those"!!! I soon learned. We had good friends that lived in Oregon, and there was a green stamp store in there town. Nancy and I loved going shopping there!!

I wonder why no one does this anymore? Seems like it would promote loyalty to a store. In these days of coupon clipping and going to several stores to get the best deal seems like it would work.

I remember how exciting it was because I got to put them into the book.. My Mother lived in Germany during the war as her remembers the ration books and black market - so when she came here and there where the green stamps books she felt we had won a jack pot. I remember her getting dishes, a frying pan and even some bakeware. Such an event in our housefold.

I remember my mom getting green stamps from the grocer's. We always loved to stick them in the books. And the store was always fun to go into. I think my sister got a hair dryer with some one time. You know the kind with the hose and the plastic thing you put over the curlers. I always hated that the elastic around the plastic hurt my forehead! Wow what great memories this brings back! thanks.

As a young bride in 1968, I used my green stamps to buy lamps and area rugs for my new home. I loved them, and we had a big Green Stamp store in our town with lovely things. I never used them all and still have a couple of books.....too bad I cannot use them now.

I remember seeing the signs as a small child for greenstamps. My mom collected & used "blue chip stamps". How did one gain access to these stamps to fill the books with? And where did one get the stamp books to fill?

It was my job to put my grandmother's stamps in her books when we visited her in Arkansas. She had S & H Green Stamps and Gold Bond stamps. I thought it was the coolest way to "earn" things when I was a kid. We lived in Germany so I never knew what she used them to get. Believe me a years worth of those stamps was a lot! We visited once a year.

Not sure but weren't called Scotchmoor or Scotsmoor stamps. We think we got them at Walgreens or some other drugstore. Not really sure.

I also remember S&H Green stamps - I got an alarm clock when I was first married (a million years ago). The S&H Green Stamp store was so fun... I thought we had Plaid Stamps too. I'm from the midwest - but I don't remember Gold Bond Stamps. Anyone else remember Plaid stamps???

I hate to date myself but when I first got married I bought a popcorn popper and a welcome mat with my gold bond stamps. I also remember looking for the coupons on cigarette packs, we never found enough to buy anything but we had a few when it was discontinued. There were redemption centers in Denver where you could go in and shop. It was a great marketing devise. You felt as if you got something for free.

I remember pasting green stamps in the books and also another kind called gold bond stamps or something like that. My dad smoked, and we also got some kind of coupons off the cigarette packs that you could turn in for merchandise as well. I think maybe Raleigh? Anybody remember those?

We had both green stamps and Thrifty stamps (a gold color stamp if I remember right) I think if you filled the book you got $3 or $5. Something like that. My parents said that I could have the money when the book was filled so I thought I'd be clever and glue some of the pages together so I didn't have so many to fill...busted!! I guess I wasn't so clever as my parents had to pull the glued pages apart. Remember: crime doesn't pay, not even $3 or $5!

I remember them too and filling out the books. Two things I remember my mom getting was a pair of lamps, and an artificial Christmas Tree from the green stamp store.
