I have wanted a tear drop trailer forever!!! My oldest son (he is 33) has been talking to me about this for the past week..by phone..he is 13 hours away from me in Calif and has always wanted to build one himself but since he has a camper and boat already and no reason to use a tiny trailer with his family with three little kids he never really got serious. He is so excited to get going on this project FOR ME!! He is seriously thoughtful and wants me to be able to have a special "getaway" trailer for girlfriend trips and like that! I am so tingling with excitment!! I know it won't be a quick thing but just the idea that maybe summer of 2012 I will be able to camp in it is fun for me!! I sent him a book I bought awhile back all about them and he has been getting plans together...already has a frame from a hobie cat trailer to start with although he wants to put bigger wheels on it and make some changes. ..anyway..just had to share! Sisters on the Fly here I come!!

Trust me, Jenny, a mini van will work out well...and has great storage too!
My 'potty' is one of those portable self contained camping potties & I stash it in my closet. Some of the gals have those utilitarian 5-gal buckets, & they by ther "horse shoe" seat at camping supply places like Cabelas and then thay make cute little "Potty Covers" so that the potty looks like a tall ottoman....cute huh?
Also, some of the gals put kitty litter in the bottom & then double baggy over the opening, the litter is for odar control & to catch any leaks....others actually use baby diapers to absorb the "waste products"....
My trailer does not have a refridge, only an ice box which I use as storage for my food. I haul a small dorm size refridgerator and set it on a table outside my trailer (&hooked in to power) then at night I cover it w/a plastic table cloth.
Life is good, and then ya discover Glamping! lol!
I have seen the all wood teardrops, and you are right, they look awesome,,,but from what I have heard, a lot of maintanance...as they have to be re-seal/varnished every couple of seasons. But they are georgeous!
Happy Trails!

Thanks for showing the pics Grace...they are so adorable. I am in love with Maryjanes teardrop..if I had the funds I would get one right now..haha. But this will be so special! He is even talking of making it all wood! Very cool!! We will see. I love your little Scotty!! I agree about the potty..but will get over it..haha.
Mine will get pulled with a mini van unless I somehow can "upgrade" to a pickup by the time it is done. I would love to drive a pickup...but with 4 kids still at home that may be a few years yet.

Oh Jenny I am so excited for you... I grew up camping in one and would love to have one again. It has been tickling in the back in my head but with the farm I never get away so I will have to live thru your adventures for now. How wonderful that your son is doing this for you and what a great adventure the two of you will be sharing. I hope you will share it with us on your blog or here - I am thrilled for you.

I did! I asked him to take pictures constantly. I wish (so much) that he lived closer so I could take pictures myself. I would likely drive him nuts though..haha. I plan to post updates on my blog whenever he tells me anything or sends a picture.

Oh Jenny! What fun you will have with this. I'm excited for you too. I've wanted a small trailer to call my own for a while now. A "big girls" doll house that I can glam up to suite my tastes. It must be small so I can handle it on my own, but there will be plenty of opportunity to add personality to it. Can't wait to see yours and I guess until I can get one for me I'll be reading of your wonderful adventures! Tell him to take lots of pictures of the construction!

Happy to be a "Raggedy Ann" in a Barbie World!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
