Posted - May 06 2011 : 06:11:34 AM I am having a difficult time locating a food bank or pantry that will take fresh green onion. With the rain, we have a lot of it.
So, since I cannot find homes for it, I am making a "care package" for family members each time I drive to town (some with canned jelly and fresh farm eggs). I have also called various churches to spread the word about my fresh green onion. It can be frozen too, so teaching people this may help find homes that need it or can use it. I'm also going to see if people like the lady at the post office can use some.
We are a small town. Our resources are limited. Thought I would share.

Posted - May 07 2011 : 08:37:01 AM Yes Kristin, it is strange, but you can't even sell farm eggs at the farmer's market (here) without them being graded by an official government employee etc. I have left messages at area churches and I have not received one call back. I've been trying to locate someone for a year now.

Posted - May 06 2011 : 5:14:02 PM That's strange that it's hard to give fresh produce away. We have several food banks here and a food kitchen in Chattanooga. But now with so many laws and regulations it might be harder to give to the food kitchen. I'll have to check into that. But that's a good idea for your family.
