Hi Girls,
Went out to my daughter and son inlaws weekend cabin today, about an hours drive right into Amish country. Lots of barefoot children and even the women were barefoot. Stoped at a lot of there homes, they were selling handmade, well lots of handmade. I bought an apron, a hand woven basket and strawberry jam and candy. Then to regular garage sales,I got what used to be called a phone table and matching chair 20 dollars, so cute, a hand painted jug, 4 dollars, small sewing basket with buttons, the man thought it was Indian woven, I'am not sure, but it is extra nice. Two boxes of vintage crochet thread, coats and clark, 12 balls in each box. The boxes thenselves are pretty neat. Then a bag of mixed stitching stuff I haven't looked through yet, and 6 embrodary hoops different sizes for 2 dollars. It was so nice to see all the Amish people and there homes and horses and gardens and all the things they make.

Hmmmm...could there be a "Farmgirls Go Amish" field trip out there some day? :)
I haven't been to any Yard sales lately (too hot), but did get a perfect condition LLBean barn coat for $4 at Amvets!

I am jealous - I have always wanted to visit the Amish country. Sounds like you made a haul on some great stuff. I am due for a good garage sale/road side store/junk shop shopping trip. We are headed to the coast for the week and there are some great junk/antique shops along the way and on the coast - I am sure DH and I will be doing some browsing and shopping.

How fun...you did get some good stuff!! I would love to go to Amish country some day...never have been.
And gosh, this just isn't the best garage/yard sale area I have ever lived in!! We had such fun at the junkque stores in SLC when we had our little gathering on Friday..that was so fun! Kate (Katiedid) for sure got the buy of the day...a big tin that was $8...so I passed by without opening it assuming it was just a tin that I wasn't interested in..and it was FULL of vintage buttons and a needle card, a wooden darning egg and all sorts of wonders...it was so fun for us all to pass around and go through when we were having tea. What a find!!

Looks like we all had a good weekend for more good stuff. Know what you mean Melissa about missing out on good buys, have done that myself. But there is always next time.
RHONDA, nice to hear from you again, get out there again before the season is over and then tell me what you find.

It must have been a good weekend for yard sales. I got a rag doll, and a little rocking chair for her for under a dollar, an Annie and chair for her for under 4, lots of crochet patterns, a little yarn, 6 crochet hooks, bunches of books, a cute little amber glass bottle, and the list goes on! I am about to kick myself in the tail though. I stopped at a yard sale yesterday on the way to work, and they had some of the best stuff, for really great prices. I didn't have much cash, and was in a hurry, so I got a few things, and didn't get a few. They had a really nice enamelware pot with lid, good size, for $4, and several old tins, for less than a dollar ( I only bought 1). Then I went back later that day, and of course, the things that I had eyeballed, but not bought, were gone. Today we stopped by Peddler's Mall, a little flea market, and I couldn't believe the prices on the enamelware pots and the tins. I have fussed at myself all day long over not buying those when I had the chance! Oh well! Next time I will know better!

Nancy always love to hear about your great finds! Sounds like another good week for you! I haven't had a chance to go out to the sales for weeks! I will have to live vicariously through you!
Oh Teddie! What a neat town-one where the mayor has his own produce stand. Love it!

Nancy,
You had quite a day. You really made a haul. I love Amish country. Grew up in N.E. Oh and have lots of furniture from there too. I really miss seeing Amish work in the fields and eating the produce, seeing the quilts, etc, etc,

Ga is interesting too. Today we went to the "big" city of Glenn GA were my husband grew up. Tiny town with a few hundred people. His cousin is Mayor and we stopped @ his roadside produce stand to visit. He also had a small building of Flea market items. I got a 1920 singer sewing machine that is a hand-crank model. He only charged 25.00. It needs some TLC,but I'm gonna clean it up and hope to sew something on it.
We had a great day today didn't we?

Teddie
