Posted - Apr 29 2011 : 2:46:28 PM Shelia, that is such a good idea! I agree with everyone else. Another place to find travel-sized toiletries is at Target. I don't know if they are expensive or not, but they have an entire aisle for travel sized things. Also, when McDonald's does their Monopoly thing, some of the little coupons are for free fries or a sandwich. Once they start doing that, you could save those to give to them. Hope this helps! Posted - Apr 28 2011 : 08:39:54 AM I think this is such a nice thing you are doing. Lots of good ideas. My DH & I travelled the country for awhile and when we stayed in a hotel I took all those little "freebies" they left in your room (soap, shampoo, etc)home and threw them in a shoe box. When the box was full I took it to a shelter. Maybe also, small bottles of hand sanitizer. I know Joanns Fabric sells them for $1.00. I know whatever you do will be much appreciated. This is so kind. Posted - Apr 27 2011 : 1:24:30 PM Great thought Shelia. How about some of those plastic ponchos you see packaged up at the register in stores? A bottle of water would be appreciated in the summer time round here! Your dentist might be willing to give you some toothbrushes or sample toothpaste or mouth wash. Nail clippers and emery boards are useful to any one. Tea bags and sugar packets cause everyone has access to hot water. All I can think of right now. Connie

Posted - Apr 27 2011 : 12:59:48 PM Any more ideas? I was hoping for some great ideas :) I'm not looking for a large project for a youth group or some such, but I just want something quick and easy to keep under the front seat of the car to share when I have the opportunity. . .

Posted - Apr 26 2011 : 9:56:34 PM Yes, yes and more yes to Joey's post, in addition to small disposable wipes both for hands and nether regions. Ask all of your friends to save coupons for toothbrushes and when they go on clearence buy out what you can... disposable razors, travel size containers of soft soap, they can be used for both shaving and bathing. You could make up a small packet for these items, put a label on for your comfort. If you can afford it, possibly include a gift certificate to a local fast food place for 1.00 or so for a cup of coffee or pop. This makes a super project for a youth group at your church/ civic gathering. |

Posted - Apr 26 2011 : 9:47:45 PM Saw your blog but thought I'd leave a few ideas here. I am a Psych. RN and I get alot of homeless patients or people living in shelters. What they always need is hygiene supplies-small bottles of shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc. Also NEW socks or underwear and the women love the tiny sample bottles of perfume. Hope this helps,Joey
