Ladies, I am so sorry. I should have checked this out before posting. It came from a very reliable source (the lady I buy our grass feed beef from, who is a friend and a school teacher). I trusted her, but still there is no excuse for passing this on without doing my own "homework".

Alee took the time to look it up on Snopes and Mary Beth also took the time to post, having worked for McDonalds at one time. Please read their replies.

Again, I apologize. ~ Cheryl

A Must Read about Mc Donalds ~ this is a good decent man who took the time to write this and he signed the statement and included his contact info.

Please Read on:

I'm sure those of you who aren't in the cattle business don't understand the issues here. But to those of us whose living depends on the cattle market, selling cattle, raising the best beef possible... This is frustrating. This will keep us from ever stopping there again, even for a drink. The original message is from the Texas Cattle Feeders Association American cattle producers are very passionate about this.

McDonald's claims that there is not enough beef in the USA to support their restaurants. Well, we know that is not so. Our opinion is they are looking to save money at our expense. The sad thing of it is that the people of the USA are the ones who made McDonald's successful in the first place, but we are not good enough to provide beef.

We personally are no longer eating at McDonald's, which I am sure does not make an impact, but if we pass this around maybe there will be an impact felt.

All Americans that sell cows at a livestock auction barn had to sign a paper stating that we do NOT EVER feed our cows any part of another cow.. South Americans are not required to do this as of yet.

McDonald's has announced that they are going to start importing much of their beef from South America . The problem is that South Americans aren't under the same regulations as American beef producers, and the regulations they have are loosely controlled.

They can spray numerous pesticides on their pastures that have been banned here at home because of residues found in the beef. They can also use various hormones and growth regulators that we can't. The American public needs to be aware of this problem and that they may be putting themselves at risk from now on by eating at good old McDonald's.

American ranchers raise the highest quality beef in the world and this is what Americans deserve to eat. Not beef from countries where quality is loosely controlled. Therefore, I am proposing a boycott of McDonald's until they see the light.

I'm sorry but everything is not always about the bottom line, and when it comes to jeopardizing my family's health, that is where I draw the line.

I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ...and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers!

(I did a bit more....90!...mtc)

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you? Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on..

Cheryl,

It took 2 trips to Ruby Tuesday's to figure out it was the lettuce!

It's happened with hot dogs and MSG laden chinese food.

About 20 minutes after a meal, I'll get a pain behind my right eye that ALWAYS results in a migraine. The second trip to R.T. was proof about the lettuce. The day had been ordinary and up to that point, nothing much different had been consumed...both times. No storms for strange barometric prssure to blame it on, and no stress to think of either

I had read in some of the migraine literature, that those with the chemical sensitivity will get these. I think the same thing has happened with Wendy's salads too. Pity, cause I love a big salad

Thankfully we do grow most of our own veggies.

As a farmgirl who raises cattle, and occasionally sells them at our local auction barn, I can tell y'all that we've ver had to sign anything that stated that our cows have never consumed another cow. Shoot, the most they ask us is "is it bred?" or "is it steered?" and "Where do you want us to send the check?" Of course, most everyone at the sale barn knows us anyway, and knows how we raise our cattle. I hate it as much as the next one that these rumors get started. As for McD's, we don't eat their often, but once a year to 18 months, I do confess to a Big Mac attack. As for the rest of the time, I prefer a good old fashioned 'Paradise' burger, straight off our own grill. Preferably with a side of Santa Fe Fries. Oh, mercy. I'm gonna have to stay away from this website. Every time I'm on it lately, I get hungry!!!!! :)

Thank you, ladies, for your kind comments. I'm not beating myself up, too much. ;) I just hated that I posted it without checking it out first.

I agree, we really need to strive to learn where our food comes from and how it has been treated or with what it has been treated during the processing.

Seems nearly everyone has some type of health problem that can be traced back to some type of environmental issue - such as the lettuce being treated with a chemical solution to keep from wilting 'causing headaches. How long did it take you, Anna, to figure out what was 'causing your headaches?

We would probably all be wise to keep a food diary of sorts - maybe especially for our children or grandchildren.

We try to keep things as basic as possible. We grown much of our own food, buy locally from other farmers, and purchase somethings from our food co-op. While we aren't just "meat and potatoes" eaters, I try to stay away from recipes that call for adding such ingredients as cream soups....why not just make a cream sauce ourselves and add the need spices to achieve the taste we are looking for? Keeping things simple, using whole ingredients, avoiding prepared foods as much as we can, this is how we eat. We rarely eat out, maybe have take-out once or twice a month, to treat the kids and usually they pick pizza.

My own wake up call, came from using household cleaners. I started having severe allergic reactions to things like "409". I could start cleaning with 409 or other similar products and my feet would begin to feel like they were on fire. I now make most of our cleaning products.

I am going to stop, because this is a subject I could go on and on about (and I know I am preaching to the choir as they say, as many of you are far more savvy about this topic than I am).

It has brought up a good point. Do you know where food comes from when you eat out or even when you buy it at the stores?

I still think that this post is a wake up call.

I see labels here that say Mexico/USA/Canada. So it can be from any of these. What's up with that?

Cheryl, I hope you didn't think that my post was criticizing you!!! I was simply pointing out that the accusation had been around for a very long time. :-) It's easy to get snookered by these emails. I've been taken in by quite a few. I'm finding that I have to approach every one of these types of emails with a healthy doubt and research, research, research before I accept any one of them as fact.

And I have learned in the process that there are an awful lot of organizations and people who simply hate other people or American companies and will say whatever they can to start rumors, false accusations and even boycotts. Their anger and resentment comes from their own unhappy lives which they just want to pass on to whomever they can target. If I get an email about a politician or a company, I usually just chalk it up to some angry person who doesn't have anything better to do with his or her life!! :-)

Don't beat yourself up. If all of us admitted how many times WE had forwarded a false email accusation, there'd be a boatload of red faces. :-)

personally I think we'd all be better off if we cooked for ourselves, grew what we could and stopped using fast food as every night dinner. I get sick after eating Mcdonalds ever since my gallbladder came out so I don't eat fast food anymore, so much fat my body can't digest it I

And Cheryl,

Please don't beat yourself up over this. These day you just never know what's truth or not unless you really do soame digging.

Agreed that your topic has generated more great discussion. So thank you! :)

They do the same thing for lesser quality chicken nuggets. Extrude the "meat" annd the mystery fillers and wash it w/ the bleach solution

Beaks and feet and other "mystery" poultry parts all ground up and mosty fed to people's kids!

I don't eat a lot of fried foods, so there's no love lost there.

And if you tear apart a burger patty, same as the nuggets, you can SEE either mush or real beef.

And sadly, the vegitarians don't have it any easier since a lot of places use a spray chemical to stop wilting on lettuces. For some of us, this spray causes migraines!

Oh...I was standing in my kitchen with Justin and our friend, Luke, consuming a large, pepperoni pizza from Zamarelli's Pizza Palace in Grove City, Ohio. I only get to eat this pizza about one or 2 times a year since all my relatives in Grove City are passing away, and Luke worked in Columbus, so he kindly stopped and got us one on his way home. I love Jamie, but I do believe I love Zamarelli's more :)

After that, my mom called with the bad news about my friend, Brett so I didn't think about much, I guess.

I'll have to catch up with the first episode online and make sure I tune in again next Tuesday, "foxy chic"!!!

I CAN'T believe you missed that, you Jamie fan you!
It was on Tues at 8 PM
Made me so glad I know where my beef came from.
The burger is so good, I typically eat a bunch of it right out of the pan, with no seasoning when browning for chili or whatever.
I thought of you the whole time, as I know how you love Jamie

When was it on, Kris? I missed it! Didn't see ANY promotion here in our area!

Did anyone watch Jamie Oliver's new show in LA? He showed where alot of the "burger" comes from. Did a demonstration. He took all the leftover pieces of bones and fat and anything that wasn't edible or sellable to the public. They put it in a cintrifugal (?) machine that gets the pieces of meat that are left and then they take that and grind it up. It looked like burger. Well, then they wash it with amonia and water. Then rinse and add all kinds of fillers and junk to it. That's what most of the schools serve as ground beef.

I agree with Diane. I am sure we all get emails that are forwards about certain topics not knowing whether they are true or not. Years ago, I learned too late after passing something on about SNOPES.COM. So I routinely look up the subject. There is usually something on it about the subject. So no need to apologize. What I like best from McDonalds...are the french fries.

That's OK, this is what this forum is about. Bring up a topic and converse on it. You thought your source was reliable, no need to agonize over it.

Actually, this accusation has been around since I worked for McDonald's fresh out of college in the late 70's. It wasn't true then either. In fact, we went through a class way back then, in order to be able to rebut the falsehoods that were being spread.

I do not defend fast food at all, but McDonald's, like all other fast food restaurants, sells fast food. That is what they started out as in the 50's and is why they have grown so large. People want fast food and don't want to cook at home. As for the rest of us who understand how important home cooked food is, McDonald's can still be a once in a blue moon excursion , but it is not going to kill us or our children. It troubles me how people pile on corporations because of some assumed negative impact all of a sudden when they have been around for decades and nothing is new. We have choices to be customers or not to be customers, but the efforts today by random email campaigns to destroy American companies is very, very disheartening. McDonalds is a very good place to work, pays their employees higher than average wages and provides health insurance to their full-time workers. In this day and age of pitiful employment rates, that is certainly a blessing.

We don't eat at McD's either...How they can call that a hamburger is beyond me. DH GRILLS our own and there is no comparison!

Makes me mad to know that another BIG chain is looking outside the U.S. for a cost cutting strategy. As always.... It's all about the MONEY.

Hamburgers made at home taste MUCH better than McD's anyway!
Annab Posted - Apr 14 2011 : 03:49:37 AM
OK......I did the SNOPES search and according to them, the calim that McD's will use S American beef is false.

Y'all can go to SNOPES.com and read it for yourselves

The Cattlemen's letter has been in circulation for some time now, as in a few years and is false. They never signed such a petition.

And McD's claims they use other sources outside the US becuse our beef is fattier, and they want leaner

Just read.

But I agree that the sizes of a LOT of things these days are shrinkng...and the prices are outrageous!
Annab Posted - Apr 14 2011 : 03:43:42 AM
Yet again..........another American icon down the crapper.

We used to eat there about 1/wk. These days it's hardly at all.

I love Hardee's 6 dollar burgers instead, and only , really liked McD's for their fries.

Guess we'll stick to makig our own burgers at home from meat that came from our frined's herds.

This is so sad..........And I bet a lie just so the coorporation can make cuts.

I'm gonna do a SNOPES search and see what the truth is

Thanks for sharing

I am not defending McDonalds in any way, but I did check this letter through Snopes and it looks like it is partly true, but not 100% and it seems to have been around for quite some time. I don't like eating out and when I do eat out I really don't like McDonald's hamburgers anymore. I usually get a grilled chicken sandwich because it is a "whole" piece of meat. Who knows what is ground in with the beef for those burgers! I know they put flavoring in the mix so each burger is supposed to taste the same. Ick.

Has anyone watched the DVD called "Supersize Me"? It's a documentary about a guy who was very health conscious and decided to do a "trial" on McDonald's foods. The rules of the documentary were that for one month he had to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at McDonald's. If they offered him to "supersize" his order, he had to. When the one month was up, his health suffered. He gained, if I remember right, 30 lbs. It took him 6 months to lose the weight he gained in just that one month. If I remember right, he had problems with his thyroid afterwards, too. It is scary to think what is in our processed foods.
