Looking to try my hand at Huck Embroidery. Does anyone have any experience doing this? I would LOVE to learn how to do this. Any suggestions as far as instruction books would also be appreciated!

Wow, I remember doing that in 7th grade Home Ec class -- where, among other things, we were taught to sew (if we didn't already know how) on old treadle sewing machines. We had to buy "huck toweling" for this project, which is what that special cloth is called. It looks pretty cool. |

Hi Melody,
This just caught my interest recently. I just bought three booklets on how to do it. I ordered them from Barnes and Noble as I couldn't find any locally. Two are on afghans and the other one is on little things like kitchen towels, pin cushions, pillows and basket covers. It looks pretty simple. All you need is some monk's cloth, some four ply yarn and a tapestry needle. I haven't tried it yet, but I do have all of the supplies and will get to it soon. It really is beautiful and it doesn't look hard to learn. Good luck with this. I can't wait to get started.

Huck embroidery is done on a special fabric which has two raised parallel threads. You follow a chart as in counted cross stitch, but the needle goes along the surface of the fabric in a running stitch and under the two threads, never to the back of the fabric. |

I have just started embroidery and I love it. I have not seen this before, it's soooo beautiful. To me this looks machine done. Thanks for broadening my horizons, I'd like to try my hand at this myself.
