Are you active in your churches woman's ministry? What kinds of things do you do?

We're looking to expand our woman's ministry and get more ladies active. We meet weekly (that could be the problem) and now we're running out of ideas.

I need some help!

Well, in our group, this time of year a salad supper is always fun. Everyone brings their favorite salad.

One meeting, I demonstrated how to make soy wax candles and all the ladies took home a candle.

Something with a garden theme would be fun and springy. Maybe if you could have table decorations - I clay pot, filled with gardening gloves, a small bag of potting soil, one or two of those hand held garden scoops or forks, either a small plant or a couple of pkgs of seeds. These would be cheap to put together, and then you could draw for door prizes.

A craft auction - each lady brings something she made or baked - one item, then auction the items off. Use the monies to support a group summer project.

I recently heard from a friend, that her church did a special program based on Esther. Of course, they did it around the time of Purim, but it sounded awesome. I am definitely putting it on our calendar for next year.

Any of the above could be worked into a devotional to accompany it.

Blessings!

We're trying to get the ladies involved together. We have a few service projects for the future. But at each meeting we seem to be lacking. Majority of the ladies don't want another Bible study. We've been reading devotionals or someone will share about a book they're reading.

We used to be a Baptist church, now we're a Bible church. So food is mandatory. We had "floats & fellowship" one week. Root beer floats and did our devotional. One week we played dominoes. Last week we each shared about when we first remembered knowing Jesus on a personal level.

We sent letters to our missionaries. Maybe I should suggest sending a care package to someone, a different one monthly or every 2 months.

Deb, what kind of ideas are you looking for?

Holly, I like that you have adopted the wives of the missionaries! That is an excellent idea.

I am, I do, we are - to all of the above! Currently, we're looking for ideas, but I'll share what we've done in the past. We do a lot of work within our association (I'm missionary baptist). One of the things my ladies have done in the past is send cards - sometimes with small offerings to the wives of our missionaries. They really do have it tough sometimes- limited budgets, away from home/family. Just a sweet uplifting note to let them know we're praying for them.

Recently, we've adopted a missionary wife and we're doing something for her each month. She's been ill, so we sent her a care package - new gown & robe and some bath things and devotional book. Last month, we had a grocery pounding. This month, we'll be collecting an offering for a new Easter outfit. It's tailored specificaly to her.

We also look for needs within our community. We've bought diapers and food for mothers in need. We have a lot of elderly people and shut-ins within our own church, so we try to take care of them - phone calls, cards, letters, small gifts (if and when appropriate.)

That's all I can think of right now. We meet weekly too - every Wed. night for Bible study. We decided to just do monthly projects to avoid budget pinches and give us enough time to plan. Good luck with the ideas!
