On my way home today from the bigger city of Orlando. I had stopped at a red light. There was a homeless older man standing there with his sign. So I rolled down my window and gave him a $5.00 bill. He was very appreciative. About that time my friend called me and ask what I was up to. I told her I was on my way home and just gave a homeless man some money. She said that was a good thing because it always comes back to you some way. This afternoon my DH went to check his lottery ticket and had won $367.00. I called my friend and told her she was so right that it had come back around to us and in a big way. I also bought my sons girlfriend her cap and gown for graduation $85.00 because she could not afford it and she is an A student at school and deserves to walk the stage. My friend and I always give what we can and it really does seem to come back around some way!

Just reading this on a rainy Saturday am and thinking that I have a focus for today. During this time of the year, instead of "giving up" I am going to just "give". Give smiles, help, an ear to listen and when I can, money. Thanks to all of you farmgirls for being such an inspiration! Kindess counts!

I love to make someone elses day whenever I can, it makes me feel good, to make them feel good, and a smile can take you through the day. Something I have never forgotten from about 10 yrs. past. Was in line at the grocry store, two ladies in front of me. One very well dressed, I had seen her around town, but did not know who she was. The first gal in line did not have enough $$ to pay for her large basket of groceries. The lady in front of me said to the first lady in line "here, let me pay for the rest of your groceries, and Merry Christmas". It brought tears to my eyes.Several years later, this woman was my realtor and I reminded her of her good deed, and told her how much I admired her for it. She and I are still very good friends. Everyday, we should all do a good deed, or try to make someone smile, it will make you smile all day also~~~

Okay Laurie,
This is what I keep in mind when ever I give these guys money. If they are in sound mind and scamming then they will pay for it in the end. Your brother in law did the right thing and will reap great rewards in heaven, Not only will he be blessed but it makes you feel good in your heart by knowing you did the right thing. You are not giving for them but you are giving to your self. I keep in mind that some of these guys and girls may have mental type disabilities and may not be getting any type of family support. Or the care giver of them may have passed on and the streets is the only option at this time. I have encountered this several times over the years. There use to be this little old lady that would walk up and down the side walk all day eating out of the garbage cans. My son and I would always give her money when ever we would see her. After about a year I started inquiring about her around town I even ask a friend whom was a police officer about her. Her family had moved her here and left her at this nursing home which is now closed down and she would sneak away during the day and look for food. I was told that the little old lady was very rich but not all there in her mind. She had plenty of money for food and alot of the things she did was for attention. I still continued to give her money even if it was just a dollar here and there just to see the smile on her face and she would always give us a curtsey like bowing down to the queen which I thought was cute. She was in the type of home where they were allowed to leave through out the day. I also keep in mind that one day when ever I am not here that could be one of my kids needing help and I sure hope someone will stop and offer to give them a helping hand when they are in need. It does not have to be in money but maybe just a hug to let them know it will be alright. I will always continue to help and give as long as I am able. The guy I helped yesterday was old and limpimg he looked like he needed to see a doctor. I would of also got out and gave him a hug if the traffic had not been so heavy! So don't let it worry you remember God is watching!!!

Dorinda, good for you. I admit that I am always torn. There are as many people out there that are scammers as are needy. that always worries me. My brother in law had picked up a bunch of McDonald gift cert (years ago) and gove those out. A few guys went off on him demanding money instead. This is a tough time because so many people are needing help.

Jonni, nope I don't think you did anything wrong. More people need to speak up when another is acting dangerous to others.

You are all amazing. Thanks for reminding me to be nice. It may sound strange, but it does not always come naturally.

I think I might have "cancelled" my Karma out this am. On my regular morning commute, a small black older dog was running amok in 4 lanes of traffic, scared and seemingly blind. I pulled over, put on my flashers and tried to get him to come to me, but he was too frightened and took off at full speed right into traffic (luckily, people stopped), so I ended up calling the Kenton Co. Animal Control and 911 so someone could try to save the little thing.

Later, a few miles down, I saw this stupid taxi cab weaving in and out of traffic, cutting people off (including me) without signal, and then he practically ran this man off the road who was turning left by riding up so close to his bumper, pushing him out of the way, so I called the cab company and told them that I was going to call the cops and he better reign his driver in...Interesting to watch the cabbie pick up the phone and try to look around to see who was tattling on him. Didn't slow him down ANY.

Happy to be a "Raggedy Ann" in a Barbie World!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Oh what lovely stories!...years ago I decided that good deeds were something I wanted to try & always do when i was out & about....now its not always about money but I may let someone in front of me in line....say excuse me when i walk in front of someone...nod,smile& say good morning.afternoon to anyone that looks at me. up here in Massachusetts I do not always get nice replies back but I decided for my well being to do this as I always feel better about myself for being kind to others. I love that in the days pass men took off their hats or tipped them when spying a woman & opened doors for them...now a days I more than likely open doors for men & smile at them....I sure get funny looks but some days & just think its the right thing to do especially if the person is older than me. The rewards I get from this is a nicer brighter day for myself & those around me at home....Michele'

Good for you Dorinda! You are so right- it always does come back to you. I recently won a 50/50 raffle at my daughters concert at school. Instead of taking my winnings ( approx $250) I decided to just give it back to the school since they use the money for scholarships for the kids for art and music education. I looked at it like I paid $5 for my raffle ticket. I saw an amazing concert, and walked out of there with the same amount of money I walked in with! An evening well spent!
Later in the week I played Bingo with my monthly girls night out bingo group and I won $80 AND a great gardening gift!
The feeling you get from doing a good deed is more than enough "payback". It just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside to do something nice for others doesnt it?
Warm Smiles,
Laurie

Wow, you're brave. We have these in Minnesota and Texas and it's hard to know if they really are in need there are so many of them. I like to help too but when several of them are on the same corner. I am leery.
