went to Goodwill sunday found a pair of Levi jeans for $5 plus a jean jacket I am using for my merit badges and paid $2.50 for it |

I'll be glad for garage sale season to start around here. Its more fun and the prices are definitely better.

Our GW is also pricey. I'm very reluctant to buy anything there.
If you have the time, yard sales are the best source to find clothing. Especially children's clothing.
Folks doing yard sales don't want to haul all the stuff back into their house, or GW, so great deals on clothing.

I haven't been to one nearby however I have shopped a few times on their website. The only thing about that though is your biding against other people for the items. |

with everything so expensive and money so tight it's fun to find a deal. sometimes I just get the urge to go thrifting and see what I can find :) |

WOW! our GW store is not that high....
But you are so right about the "designer" pricing...I am finding that nearly all Thrifts are doing that to get the 'collectable' or designer price....
We have "Teen Challenge" thrift and 'Value Village' thrift... the teen Challenge one is really cheap, and you can even bargin...and I have seen homeless people come in and be given a change of close for free....talk about charity....as it should be.
The Value Village up here has 99cent Mondays...where the tag with the color of the day (ex: all red tags) what ever the price is on the item, it is only 99cents.....so needless to say thats when i usually go there...I actually scored a working sewing machine in a cabinet for 99cents! No Lie!.
I also buy wool coats & sheets for crafting. Not to mention I am always looking for more "stuff" to decorate my trailers with....

Love thrift stores but agree with you that Goodwill is probably the most expensive overall - unless you get the 50% off stuff. There's a great thrift store by my dad's nursing home - I usually stop once a week. I haven't had time to stop for several weeks and planned to today - but ran out of time and had to get back. It really hurt to drive by and not stop. I don't always buy stuff - I'm working on decluttering the house - but its so much fun to look! And I've found some great stuff too. Patricia - sounds like you hit the jackpot with the $5 jeans and the jean jacket. Woo Hoo! I love finds like that...

I thought the prices were high myself and I like our Salvation Army store better but jeans for $5, you cant beat that. |

Our Goodwill is too expensive--seriously. $6.89 for ratty old sweaters, and I've even seen people who actually NEED charity, unable to afford a coat for themselves or their children. The "straight across the board pricing" for children's items is strange--$3.89 for a onsie? $3.89 for a jacket? Jacket I can see, onsie I cannot.
I only go when they have their sales, but they've gotten into looking up name brand clothing now, online and pricing it accordingly. At least the one's around here, do. I realize the money GOES to charity, but how about the people shopping there that ALSO need charity...
We have other thrifts that I frequent much more--our St. Vincent DePaul is wonderful, and so is another non-church affiliated thrift called "The Village". That's a feast for the eyes and takes all day!

I have to drive 45minsto get to a Goodwill. We have a Rescue mission and several flea markets though where I can find a bit of everything! Yesterday I bought files to sharpen my garden tools. $2.50 a piece. Plus they had a ton of antique hand tools. Will be headed back there next Tuesday!!

bot our Goodwill and Salvation Army stores have a color coded tag system and everyday one color is 50% off so it's a hunt ato find what you want and try to get the half off on top of it . thanks for the doll parts, as soon as I get over this viral infection I will be creating |

That is fantastic! I love the Goodwill! We just got a new one in our area and have found some great things there. It always feels good to come out with something you've been looking for...for a great price! I don't know if ours has a senior day, but will have to check that out.

I love Goodwill and despite living in a very small town we have the greatest Goodwill, and I love it when I find treasures. I try to go on Tuesday or Wednesday as Tuesday is military discount 15% off and Wednesday is senior citizens day 15% off. But, I will bet Patricia you or not old enough for a Senior Discount. Your China doll parts went in the mail yesterday, glad they have found a new.
