Posted - Jan 12 2011 : 11:54:02 AM I'm sure everyone has heard that standing too close to the microwave while in use can be dangerous. Wheather it is or not is still debateable I think. But if you are unsure of how save your microwave is, here is a test.
Put your cell phone in the microwave. NO you do not turn the microwave on. Now, go get another phone and call your cell phone while standing in front of your mirowave oven. If your cell phone rings, you have a leak. If it does not ring, your microwave is safe.
Not sure what this all means but mine didn't ring. What do you think?

Posted - Jan 12 2011 : 12:34:18 PM Belle - that's a really neat test. I'm going to share it with others. Better safe than sorry. I can't help wondering what a leaky microwave can really do to you. Doesn't sound like it would be good at all. I'm glad your phone didn't ring, though. That's a good sign!
Jane - I'm with you. If it weren't for my husband's insistence that we have it, it'd be outta here. We rarely ever use it, it's not pretty, it's taking up counter space, and I'm a little freaked out by it for just the reason you stated!
God gave us two hands... one to help ourselves, and one to help others!

Posted - Jan 12 2011 : 12:00:38 PM I got rid of mine. Anything that works by effecting the food on a cellular level is not for me. So even if the machine doesn't leak, you are still creating free radicals in the food itself. Not for me.
