Besides family, friends, pets, and open spaces, I'm just curious about what kind of everyday things/gadgets you have lying around the farm/house that you feel like you just couldn't live without?
I use my kitchen shears just about everyday for loads of things, use clothespins in a million ways and probably would be lost without my sewing machine...oh yes, and baskets, I love baskets!

pruning shears, garden gloves, my garden cart, scissors, glue, a good broom, nail file, hammer, my cordless drill, small shovel w/long handle (great for transplanting in tight areas), my big galvanized watering can, flipflops and my garden muck boots.

After reading all these posts I think I am now going to make aprons for wedding gifts and fill the pockets with duct tape, a little knife, scissors, etc (like red nail polish!). It's time more girls realized how indespensible aprons are!

Libbie- Absolutely the best way to watch movies in the summer is on the back porch- kind of like the drive-in only a lot more comfortable. And the restroom is closer!

I have to say that for me, in summer at least, I NEED my big straw hat, sturdy gloves, red toenail polish, peppermint soap, clogs that I can kick off to come inside, lemonade in the refrigerator (just in case someone stops by!), popsicles - juice-sicles, actually - in the freezer, and more good hose than I ever think I'll need - along with a spare sprinkler each year - I inevitably run over one... and I'll "third" the duct tape and tie wire - I think you might be able to fix EVERYTHING with a combination of the two!

Ha ha! I used a bread tie yesterday to tie my hair back when I couldn't find a binder in my apron pocket.....

My great-grandmother's three-tined fork (the best for turning bacon), her rolling pin and a pastry cloth. Clothespins for sure, and an apron. My other great-grandmother's pinking shears. Duct tape- YES!! how did we live without it? Sunflower seeds to attract the birds to my back porch. Knitting needles and a ball of good wool. Mixing bowls- I use them like baskets. Custard cups- filled with yummy chocolate or vanilla pudding for my kids. Old quilts- to keep the chill off at night while watching movies on the back porch. Yikes- I really need a lot of stuff, don't I?

I would be lost without scrunchies for my hair too! I wish I could use those claw like clip things but my hair is long and really thick and they won't hold it for long..without a big old mop of loose hair hanging over the top and then what is the point of not using a scrunchie? I have them in apron pockets, on shelves and in the barn..but I have been known to tie my hair back with a handkerchief or piece of baling twine when I have had to and couldn't locate one.

For me, my reading glasses (I have them on a string around my neck), this laptop, my apron, hair scrunchie to hold back hair when cooking or doing other work where the long hair gets in the way, my large container full of green tea sweetened with stevia, my cell phone (so my hubby can call me anytime of the day from his. There are lots of things I enjoy and love, but they are not what I might use all day long.

My sewing box. It always saves the day. And probably my purse which is only just as big as can fit a couple of checkbooks, yet when anyone needs something, I seem to be able to produce it out of that purse.

Aprons, hair binders, do-rags, garden gloves, nail file, burts bees lip stuff, linen dry towels, crackers, (for when I am a little hungry between meals, which happens when you work hard) shovel and rake, both hand and large, water for me and the plants. Each plant gets a quart in the am and a quart in the pm. I get a gallon through the day ;)
Sewing machine and rotary cutter, journal, BOS, cookbooks, weather radio and CB.
I am sure there are others, but those are what come to mind immediately.

Oh Aprons..how could I forget that?????jeesh! I have one on now and wear them every blessed day of my life. Wouldn't want to do without them EVER!!

my aprons :-), wooden spoons, my clothesline, my handheld little broom and dustpan...

buckets, watering cans and baskets for sure!!! and I tend to use my little leatherman microtool for 84 thousand things a day..so that is a gadget I would hate to live without.

mary .. i agree with you .. i have baskets hanging from every rafter .. and olde crocks .. use them for so many different uses .. and i know this is kinda' .. strange' .. but i love LARGE SPOONS ... i make little 'sacks' for them with a string .. so you can carry one with you everywhere you go! i call them my SUGAR-SOUP-STEW-SALAD-SERAL SPOON (o.k. .. i know that Sereal is really spelled with a "C"!)
love my rag dollies .. although, technically, they are not 'gadgets' .. i'm sure there are a million more little 'loves' .. will add them as they come to mind! xo
