I just read about a woman who has a tradition of choosing a New Year's word instead of making resolutions. then she reflects on her chosen word for the whole year. So I waited for a word to come to me and the word is: seeds. I'm not sure why that word came to me but it did. It has a lot of spiritual connotations--seeds are hidden in the dark depths of the Earth, but when the time is right, they produce flowers or fruit. I've been looking through seed catalogs, trying to decide what I want to plant this coming spring, but we all plant seeds of love, hope, joy, peace, etc., the fruits of which often appear at the most unusual times. I'd love to hear about your word for the new year. And if you have any ideas on seeds, I'd love to hear them too. Wishing you all the best of new year's.

My word will have to be Blessings. DH and I have had several trials to go through this year. Yet we have been so blessed. They may have been so small, they could have been missed. But in thinking over the last year, I was able to name many. God is Good. Hugs, Brenda

Mine would have to be kindness. I have thought alot about this word. It needs to be written where I can see it when I am driving, feeding the animals, talking to my family. I need to be kind.

I like all these words! "Persistence" is a great word because without it, the others are just, well, words. I'm going to persist in my writing, persist in living the life I believe in, and persist in trying to educate others on the virtues of a simple, sustainable life. "Faith" and "love" make persistence possible, so I will remain "hopeful" of all life's "possibilities". And for that, I am full of "gratitude"!

I'm with all of you on all of those words, but I'd really like to add this one; one of my grandfather's favorites: Persistence.

For as far back as I can remember, this word graced my grandparents' kitchen wall on a plaque my grandfather had decoupaged, which included the following quote by Calvin Coolidge. It has always been a source of encouragement to me, as well as a reminder of the God-given strength of the human spirit which dwells within. I never forgot it. So, here's to you, Grandpa! I miss and love you so, so much...

"PERSISTENCE IS THE KEY:

'Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
The slogan, 'press on' has solved, and always will solve, the problems of the human race.'

- Calvin Coolidge"

Thank you, Cindy, for planting these "seeds" for the New Year - this is turning out to be a beautiful garden of wisdom!

Hugs and Happy New Year to all! - Nini

Mine will be LOVE. God said to love one another, so I will love even when the situation is unlovable. Love does make the world go round, doesn't it?

Cindy,
That is a good word, lots of meanings there! I think my word will be Gratitude. I even started a gratitude journal today and will write in it some little thing everyday that I am grateful for.

Happy to be a "Raggedy Ann" in a Barbie World!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
