Posted - Dec 18 2010 : 05:26:04 AM My aunt (the one I'm buying the house from) called while I was on break at work and told me that she had the deed to the house and that it was in my name. I'm not thinking anything at this point because she had told me she was going to do this just in case something would happen to her before I paid off the house. She didn't want me to have any problems getting the house. She hadn't cashed my last three house payments so I asked her if she got them. She said, "Mel, the house is yours. Mamaw would want you to have it. I'm tearing up the checks. Go fix your checkbook."
Isn't that amazing?! I tried to argue with her, but she wouldn't have it. When she called and told me, I didn't know if I was going to cry or pass out or both. oooooo I'm so giddy! Doesn't even bother me that I have to work this morning. LOL

Posted - Dec 18 2010 : 2:44:22 PM Thank you all so much! I knew you all would be as happy as we are! LOL
The night before last I was baking some cookies and the phone rang. It was a man (turns out he's actually a distant cousin lol) with a local church. He told me the church wanted to help with Christmas for my family. (This of course was before the conversation with my aunt.) I was feeling pretty bummed about Christmas. All my friends were talking about how they were spending $100 or more on each of their kids and I was just spending $30 a piece on mine plus getting the remodel going upstairs for their bedrooms. The kiddos said they were cool with them each having a bedroom of thier own for their "big" Christmas gift even if it was after Christmas when it got done, but I was still feeling kinda blah. So the plan "was" to meet at Wal-Mart with some of the members of the church to do some Christmas shopping. After getting off the phone, I told my kids about the call. Do you know what they said? "What's wrong with what we're doing for Christmas? Isn't what we're doing ok?" What good kids I have?! Right? Anyhow after speaking with my aunt yesterday afternoon and getting this terrific gift, I was getting ready to pick up the phone and call this nice man from the church, but my mom called with news about another aunt. She's having a bad time of it this year. She lost her husband back in March, has lost her job, her unemployment runs out next week and she just found out last month that her daughter is addicted to meth. No money for Christmas or bills or groceries. So today I finally got to talk to gentleman with the church. I told him thank you for the generous gift but that we were unable to accept it. I think he was stunned. And I explained the phone call from my other aunt about the house and he was tickled pink for us. And then I asked him if the church had anyone else in mind for the gift and I told him about my aunt that is having a rough time. So they are going to pass the gift on to her!! Isn't that wonderful! We got to talking afterwards and that's when I found out he's a distant cousin.
Lots of blessings this year! Ooooo I'm still floating in the clouds!
Hugs~ Melanie

Posted - Dec 18 2010 : 09:18:12 AM Fabulous! What a Christmas it will be and actually has already been! I know you've had some expenses and problems with it but now thats all worth it. What a feeling of security for you and your family, that it is now yours! Maybe some of the money you have planned for payments can go into fixing and improving for a while. God bless you in your new home. Susan
