Do any of you girls out there have a Christmas village you put up every year? I have collected the larger houses and pieces for my village. I am going to start setting mine up today. I probably have about 30 pieces. My sister in law has about 100 pieces or more. She has collected the smaller homes and town pieces. She told me she was not going to put hers up this year. Or a christmas tree. She said she was broke and could'nt buy gifts anyways. I thought how sad it is she looks at christmas for gifts only. I grew up in a large family we did not hardly ever give gifts but we had each other. We made cookies and sat around the tree and sang christmas carols. We made our gifts if we wanted to give gifts. Any ways I did'nt mean to get off the subject. I was just wondering if any of yall have collected a christmas village over the years.

I think its sad not to continue traditions like putting up a Christmas village. She's already got it so it costs nothing. I understand that being by herself could be sad because she desires the "traditional" Christmas she's use to, but the great memories associated with decorating might be better for her then to have an empty house. It sounds like she may need to create better memories around Christmas not associated with gifts and spending money. She might want to consider having friends over to help her decorate. Have everybody bring a plate of cookies or something and she could provide a special coffee, tea, hot spiced cider, or hot chocolate. Put some Christmas music on and enjoy the decorating at no cost and create some wonderful new memories.

I love houses and villages, but I collect barns, they are fun to put up and I have all kinds of great animals. When our son moved to Texas I even had to get a longhorn. We rode through a whole herd of them while on a horseback ride in cowboy country. Wow, you don't see many of them in Minnesota. Can't wait to see pictures girls.

My fiance's mother gave us her Christmas village last year. She only had the houses/shops. We bought a snow blanket we draped over boxes we stacked at different heights on top of the entertainment unit. We also added trees of various heights and sizes. It was beautiful. We hope to add another house or two this year and maybe some figurines.

my mother had a christmas village we put up every year, it was just a part of christmas. I started one when we got married, painting my houses myself and adding bits to it each year. sadly when we lost the hosue and moved I left some things behind and this is one thing that got left behind. Guess I'll have to start a new village
