Like you have to much to do/ are doing too much? Lately I have felt like that. Doug has been taking the brunt of childcare in the evening but I feel like I could sleep for a week and enjoy it!

I have been feeling SO wiped out lately. I think I could sleep for a month. I know some of it has to do with health issues, but some of it is that I've just been so busy. I keep thinking that life will slow down, but so far it hasn't.

Me, too. Seems like I just go from before daylight to way after dark. Get up at 5:15 and usually get to bed around 11:00 or 11:30. I work full time and participate in some ladies' groups. I quilt and do embroidery and in order to do those things, I sometimes have to do them late at night. Glad to know that others feel the way that I do. And, as usual, I didn't get started on my handmade Christmas gifts in time, so I'm working like crazy to get them done now. would love to spend some time in the mountains someplace to relax and refresh . . .

I was always told that a woman's work is never done...I guess we're all examples of that. Somedays I wonder if I even remember what its like not to be worn out. Leaving the retail world has really helped in the stress department, but there are still too few hours in the night to truly catch up on rest. Right now, I'm living for graduation...I plan on skipping out of town as soon as I attend my last class and taking a nice long hiking trip to unwind and get back to just being me.

Remember also we are heading into that holiday spirit that seems to push all of our buttons and we over extend ourselves thinking we might mess up someone's holiday if we do not do it all. The last couple of years I had put the brakes on that and given myself permission to not do it all and if someone doesn't like it well a lump of coal to them.

I also have really been thinking of releasing more of my tasks that just do not pay off. I think I thought that "IF" I could do it I "Should" but now I realize not everything in life that comes my way is my calling or responsibility. It is a continual test but I must learn it if I ever want to feel rested and peacefull.

Thank you for this thread I think we learn a lot from others on how to let go and take care of ourselves.

What with DH being unemployed for now a year and the chronic pain I deal with everyday, YES, I feel exhausted. I know alot is the worry over finances and the fact that I can't do like I use to. It seems like I'm taking a week to do things around the house that use to do in one day. It seems like I never find time to sit and enjoy my crafts. By the time I've done doing housework, I'm too tired and hurt too bad to craft. Did folks back in our parents days have all the chronic pain we all seem to have?? Hugs,Brenda

Yes, Alee, I know exactly what you mean.... and that is why I am walking away from my band. (Yes, btw, jennifer, don't be shocked if you are...lol) I just re-evaluated everything and think some things are more important... that I am missing out in life....

Life Now: Raising our grandaughter since she was six months old & will be two this Monday. Working in my DH business as much as possible since opening up 3 1/2 years ago. Thought we needed a little something to do. Didn't know we would soon be raising another child. All of this and I just turned 56 years old. Hubby will be 60 in March. We are fried tired. But...we are so thankful that it is us raising this wonderful little girl and not her brain dead dufus parents who lack a clue. Yeah we are wiped out!

Yes! My job is so high stress that I often feel like I am moving through molasses. I think it is at its' worst when I have been going steadily from one task to another, and have not have any downtime in between.

Does it sound weird if I say I am both sad that so many of us are run down and happy I am not alone?

Last night I went to bed early but then Nora had a nightmare and ended up sleeping with me for the rest of the night. Needless to say I did not get much sleep!

Oh my, yes! I had to sit down a week ago and look at everything I'm trying to do and decide where to cut back. I work full time, volunteer one evening a week at the homeless shelter, teach Wednesday night church and Sunday School. All this in addition to trying to put meals on the table, keep the house somewhat clean, and help with the cows and horses. So I wrote everything down, figured what had to be done (like go to work), what was not all that important and I could let it go, and areas where I could ask for help. I also scheduled "me time". Monday evenings will be simple sandwich suppers, my husband and teenage son can watch a movie on tv or have guy time, and I will retreat to my sewing room. Friday evenings will be date night with my hubby. Supper out if we can afford it that week, or just a walk together if not. After I took stock in all I have and can do, I felt pretty blessed -- still tired, but blessed!

Jennifer - I had never heard of it either! It is an auto-immune disease that attacks the thyroid and sometimes the parathyroid. Symptoms can include lethargy, hair loss, dry skin, a lump in the throat and difficulty swallowing, weight gain, gravely voice (boy is that me) and a "down" feeling. I didn't realize that the last one there applied to me. I've always considered myself a pretty 'up' person, but since starting the thyroid meds I have had more people tell me over the phone that they can't believe how good I sound - that I just sound chipper. Hmmmmm. I have lost 5 lbs so far (that'll make anybody chipper) and I feel great. My joints are involved as well and they give me some problems, but overall, I am so grateful to the naturopathic doctor who discovered this immediately while countless other specialists have missed it for years. The endocrinologist told me that I have had it a very, very long time. I had very large growths on the thyroid and he couldn't believe nobody had caught it before our naturopath.

Perpetually drained. I would love to go away for a weekend all by myself just to have not one person demand something of me. Where I could sleep in, take a nice long uninterupted bath, go for a walk, have a bit of complete silence. This week I am feeling very overwhelmed.

Wow Alee, what a time for you to post this! Without going into long sordid detail, my life has been turned upside down these past two weeks. Many family things have come up, none of them good. I am exhausted. My husband and a couple of my daughters say I worry too much! If I dont worry who will in some of these instances. I always considered myself one with God, love to pray, love my church etc. I guess I should take more time with God!

Thats my beef for today!

I guess even taking of the immediate needs of the day can be exhausting enough, its very hard to have time for yourself, which in my mind is very important fo your well being!

Thanks Jen-

I saw some sliding side reins that I like and am going to make myself some. I think that will help with the clausterphobic feeling. I just think I need to get a different bit. We just have a super simple joined snaffle but not a french link. So I worry that it could get kindof pointy in her mouth with the side reins.

I have used the side reins but I am now learning some new techniques from a friend that I have started to ride with. I start my youngsters in just a snaffle bit with a french link. I was struggling with one of them always pulling on the lunge line and then I was watching my friend lunge her horse and she had run a flat lunge line on the opposite side and over the poll and down threw the bit on the side you are lunging. That way they aren't pulling the bit threw the mouth. Gonna try that today. I am also learning how to ground drive.
I have used the side reins on a few of mine but when you do just be careful when you start out. When I first used them with Whisper I would ask for the canter and he would stop really fast and turn in the opposite direction. So I had to catch him before he did it and push him threw it. I think they feel clasutophobic at first and especially if she carries her head him.
Sounds like you are headed in the right direction. Have fun!

Yup I do. And it is all my own doing ofcourse duh. I do WAY too much. All the church things I am involved in, committees, crafts, home, work, other things...too much to do in not nearly enough time.

AND i could sleep a week, at least feels like that. But I have a "dear" neighbor-dog.... who barks up a storm at 6 AM!! EVERY morning he wakes me up and then I get up or my head will explode.

Jennifer- I wish I had your job. Being out with Tala is one of the few destressers in my life. I think that it is this semester of college wearing on me. I am pretty tired and ready for a break.

I wish we had a show around Christmas here! Tala is looking so good!

Hey Jen-
Do you use side reins to build muscle along their neck and top line? Liz Salmon recommended it for Tala but I haven't started it yet. What type of bit do you use? I have a large ring snaffle with a joint in the middle but I am thinking that with side reins a jointed bit might not be the best idea? Or maybe I need to get something like a french link in the middle so the possibility of it jabbing her is less. What do you think?

Alee, I know exactly how you feel. My DH has been working alot out of town which means I am totally in charge of the farm and all 17 horses. We just got 3 new pasture boarders a week ago in addition to the 14 we own. I have also been having to work horses and get them halter trained for our local Christmas show in a few weeks and try and ride the ones that need to be ridden. Whew! Just when I think I can take a break something always happens. One horse coliced last week, one in the barn with a eye infection for 30 days of treatment and one had a cut let. So I get to clean stalls on top of all of that. Why haven't I lost any weight is what I want to know. Oh by the way, I Love my job!

I'd sit down with a cup of tea and then get to going again until 2 pm and I would crash again. I was soooooo tired. Then, I started feeling like I had something stuck in my throat and so I finally gave up and went to the doctor because that was REALLY annoying. I have something called Hoshimoto's Disease, which basically means that my body hates my thyroid gland and pretty well destroyed it! The doctor put me on 2 grains of natural thyroid and I'm here to tell you, I'm a new woman!! I can leap tall buildings, chase bullets and cook a few meals. :-) Kinda crazy that one tiny gland makes that much difference.
