I got the latest issue of MJF yesterday,and read it last night before sleeping. One thing I've grown up knowing is that Annie & I share the same b day,Aug.13,and we're both under 5' tall,and close to the same weight. (I accidently got back to 104 but am gently getting back to 100 lbs as my back doesn't like the additional weight) I loved to play cowgirl as a kid,proudly having a Mattel Fanner 150 cap gun with gunbelt & holster. Both of seem to have a lot in common-standing up for what's right,having an entreprenuerial spirit,and a thick head of hair. I just recently finished reading the book "Cowgirl Spirit" and loved it-I am also able to relate more to my cowgirl guitar playin & singing grandmother,who I only know thru pictures.

I grew up where Annie Oakley lived and died. She has always been my hero. I used to compete in the annual "Little Miss Sure Shot" competition when I was a kid and teenager. The Garst Museum in Greenville, Ohio has a large collection of Annie Oakley memorabilia. I highly recommend it! I even have a framed picture of her hanging in my sewing room.

When I was a kid, a very young girl, I was given an Annie Oakley childrens novel for Christmas. It was a treasure to me as I grew up.
I'm sad to say it was lost somehow in my transition from child to adult.

Love the wild west women too!!! Actually love all westerns and cowboy/cowgirl stuff!! I love the cabins too and would love to have one on several acres! Aaah, maybe someday? Blessings, Linda

Annie Oakley was an amazing woman all her life. PBS ran a program about her not too long ago and I learned a lot I didn't know. You can probably find a copy to check out at your local library or request it through interlibrary loan. I haven't read the book "Cowgirl Spirit" and I just went to our library web site and can't find it by title or by author and it was published in 2001...but I did find a book titled "Cowgirls" by Candace Savage and another titled "The Cowgirl Way; Hats Off to America's Women of the West" by Holly George-Warren; it's a juvenile book but it looks like a good one with lots of pics of old time cowgirls. Saw another special on our Oregon Public Broadcasting Station about the history of the Pendleton Roundup that had wonderful footage of the amazing rodeo cowgirls of the early days. Really good program; those women were absolutely fearless.

It's on my "bucket list"....
I recall hearing about the book "Cowgirl Spirit",,,but for the life of me, don't remember where I heard about it...I think I will go over to Amazon.com & do a lil snoopin'
