Did anyone else see this on the news this morning? Apparently about 200 miles out to sea, the government doesn't reach. There is a guy, who is the grandson of a Nobel Peace prize winner, is wanting to start up some sea cities. And have their own government. He hopes to have at least 100 people in a few years out there.

There was a guy several years ago who tried to do the same thing. He has a small place and it is for sale now.

Would anyone actually live out there? I love the idea of no government interferance but I love the land too. Out there they would have to do it ALL on their own. I don't know. I think I'd rather move to Alaska and homestead there.

sounds like a grand adventure to me! it is possable to grow an entire garden on the deck of a good sized ship and i would beable to take home with me everywhere. when i got tired of the ocean, i could always find a port and go inland for a few days.

Oh...I saw that too-

Can you even imagine doing that? My mind started to spin thinking of ways to incorporate some green on that old oil derrick that was for sale...I would think it could get kinda lonely way the heck out there don't you?

But the possibilities....

I will be interested to see if this guy can get something up and running way out there. I won't even go on a cruise ship so I know I won't be going out there. Or in space either. I can't even imagine. I guess they could haul in soil for gardens. But what a long trip to the grocery stores.

We saw it on "Sunday Morning," and I'm with you, Kris - that is not the life for me! Can you just imagine living on a platform, all alone out in the middle of the ocean? Eghads! No thank you! The physical and psychological challenges seem, to me, insurmountable! I would feel more imprisoned that liberated to live like that! I absolutely embrace the diversity of nature and I am a huge fan of people. We need both! God didn't stop with just Adam, you know what I mean? And He created a wonderful garden for man before putting him into it! I just don't think we're meant for that kind of life. All I could think of was the poem by John Donne, "No Man Is An Island..."

"No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

I appreciated the final comments of the report, too, about how it'd be good for you if you are willing/able to defend yourself from attack, be responsible for your own mail, etc. And, like you said, now that platform "country" is for sale! No kidding... really? I'm shocked! LOL!!!
