Posted - Nov 01 2010 : 11:09:04 AM What a harvest it has been for apples here in the Great North Woods!
I made another big batch of apple jelly this morning and the kitchen smells heavenly-
Wonder what next year will bring?

Posted - Nov 01 2010 : 5:40:41 PM I happened to drive by a little orchard the other day and the trees were just loaded with fruit and today they are still loaded but the majority is on the ground-I shake my head and think of all those jars of jelly that could be made out of all that bounty!
I think I have discovered my favorite new "hobby" canning jellies...
Can't wait until next year-I have big plans!!

Posted - Nov 01 2010 : 2:43:56 PM I used to find Wolf River apples every once in a ewhile. They are such a great cooking apple. Those and Red Astrakan are my favorites, it makes delicious pink applesauce. I used to get the Red Astrakans from a friend's tree, but it finally bit the dust a few years ago. I'm going to have to investigate some orchards I guess...it is such a nice thing to make pantry treasurew sand smell all those wonderful aromasl. I did make a big batch of peach chutney the other day , but haven't gotten much else done, though I have lots of raspberries in my freezer ...
