It's hard to believe that another Halloween has come and gone!

This is the first year that I can remember that we didn't carve a pumpkin-

Kids are getting too old I guess...

LOL! C'mon over, girlfriends - I'll put on my best witch hat, carve out a big ol' jack-o'lantern so you can find me, make us some orange hot chocolate (a la Mary Englebreit - my favorite this time of year!) and have a huge cauldron of candy waitin' at the door... Anyone up for some "Hocus Pocus" or maybe a little "Practical Magic"? Oh, how I wish you all really could come - we'd have a blast! There used to be a tearoom nearby that held a Halloween Witches' tea - wouldn't that be fun, too?! Maybe next year we should have a virtual Farmgirls' Halloween Party - wouldn't that be awesome?! I've already got some ideas... hmmm... dang - a whole year of waiting!!! (Michelle & Ashley - you two look absolutely adorable in your hats!) Hugs - Nini

Happy Halloween ladies!!!

Ashley and I need to move to where Nini lives. We are yearning for that community spirit.

Have a good day!

Happy Halloween to everyone! Yeah, we didn't carve a pumpkin this year, either - and I really missed it!

Our town does a big kick-off Halloween parade every year on the Wednesday before the holiday. The sidewalks down our main street are lined with costumed children and adults. The local biker groups dress up and cruise down the boulevard, every politician is out in tow, tossing treats to the crowds. Each town in the area sends a truckload of firefighters to join the procession of dance troupes, representatives from local businesses, school kids, bands, Scouts and even the Homecoming Queen and her procession. My favorite part of the parade is the procession of costume contest participants - kids from "one to ninety-two." It's absolutely breathtaking to see the creativity of our neighbors! The parade finale includes a surprise appearance by the jolly, fat man in the bright red suit himself - the little ones sqealing with delight as they catch a glimpse of Santa riding down the street in a bright red firetruck! It's so cool! Our town is small, but it has such a wonderful community spirit!

Trick-or-treat, however, is never held on Halloween itself - all the local municipalities have made this determination for safety's sake. And trick-or-treat is held on a different night in each town. This is fun for the kids, but murder on the candy bowl! Parents from every other non-trick-or-treating town pull up on the main roads dropping of carloads of kids in whichever town is trick-or-treating on any given night (we never did this, though). We even get adults in their 30's and 40's (and maybe even older) begging for goodies! Thursday night our streets were absolutely humming with kids and adults alike! One neighbor went through 400 pieces of candy in just 40 minutes - and trick-or-treat lasts two hours! We've gone through 40 - 60 bags of candy in one night, with kids still knocking at the door! A lot of the older neighbors make up little treat bags for the neighborhood kids and drop them off earlier in the afternoon. It's kind of sad, though, because this year I noticed there were so many more houses with their lights out and doors shut than there have ever been before. :( It's such a fun celebration, but between the economy and the crazy way they do things here, everyone is starting to really feel the pinch. A few of us are talking about maybe just hosting an old-fashioned neigborhood Halloween party instead. Our son hasn't trick-or-treated in years, and I know he and his friends will like the idea! I guess we'll just have to wait and see what next year brings - I think it could be really fun, though! :)

Happy Halloween!

Miss Nora was a Pretty Princess and had lots of fun running from house to house yelling "Trick or Reet!" and "Ha Ha Halloween!"

That's funny Dawn-Ringing doorbells!

With our road construction wrapping up here we had very few but the street over was jam packed with kids!

And, yes October flew by....

Is it my imagination or did October disappear in the blink of an eye? We had a beautiful, cool, autumn day for Trick or Treating. My son was the only one in our neighborhood who went out. Everyone kept dumping way too much candy in his pumpkin. Now we have loads to get rid of since my little guy doesn't like candy! He just likes ringing the doorbells (he is 7) and talking to people!

I hope everyone had a fun day!Time to get the turkey decorations up.
