Oh my gosh. I just found the absolute necessity of life today. I went to the Bedré Chocolate factory today to purchase my usual chocolates for the Christmas season (and the smell there is divine) and they asked if I would like to try a sample of their crisps. What is a crisp?? It's a Pringle dipped in milk chocolate! Absolutely crazy. And absolutely wonderful. I would have never guessed. And so of course I bought a case along with all of the other chocolate I had already hauled to the car. So, now I have to get rid of chocolate before I pig out. If anybody wants something really unique and really good, you can find them at my website along with the meltaways that do just that. These chocolates are the only ones in the world made by a Native American tribe - the Chickasaws. They do know their chocolate! Just thought I'd let you know how my day went - Three pounds heavier is how it went! :-)

Kristina! You are a woman after my own heart. I am an artist and former art teacher (gave it up to home school my children!) and my motto is, "If it can be used, use it!" I love to create things from what everybody else calls, 'nothing'. When I was an art teacher, I had little money with which to work and so ingenuity had to make up the difference. I love your blogs and your ideas. Cool!

If you get to my waffle story under "Let's Cook", I am sure that you will sympathize. And I sure would love to hear any funny cooking stories you can share. I would like to compile funny stories for a cooking blog post.

I'm celebrating tonight. I figured out Microsoft Publisher and designed a catalog which I finished tonight. I know that doesn't sound all that spectacular to most people but it's that old dog/new tricks kind of thing with me. Anytime I conquer a computer thing it's awesome to me!! And how did we ever do without digital cameras, SD cards and "insert picture"?!!! :-)

Oh dear. She really told the other classes??? Wow. I'm afraid that is pretty low-classed if you ask me!!! Poor Steve. But I can sure relate to him. I tried to impress my husband's boss and a couple of friends by making Beef Wellington for dinner. I had done it before and so was very confident in putting on a table that would wow them. We had just moved to this little town from a farm near a huge city and so I innocently assumed that every store would have a whole beef filet. Right. The one of only two stores in town said that they could order it and have it in time for me. I picked it up the day of and painstakingly prepared the dinner which takes hours. It turned out beautifully and the crust of the bread around the filet was perfect. Everyone sat down to eat and I carefully sliced my work of art and served each guest. My husband and I took a bite at the same time and looked at each other and spit it out. The meat was spoiled!!! It was awful. I tried to take everyone's away and they just went on about how good it was and that they didn't know what we were talking about. I just about died. It was terrible and I am lucky that they didn't get food poisoning!!!

Thanks so much for sharing.

This happened years ago and it was my brother, who was a wonderful cook, that it happened to.

Steve had invited one of the teachers from our high school home for dinner at one time. They were both just out of college and wanted to meet the families of her students and she unabashedly stated that it would help them out some to come for dinner at our place. At that time I was using our legal last name and Steve was still using our stepfather's name so she did not know we are related. The big day comes and they arrive at our house. The first thing she wants to know is why I'm there (I was in her home-ec class and being a hippy-dippy kid instead of a perfect lady did not go over well). Mama, Daddy, and Steve explained it and we proceeded to have a decent evening. Steve had prepared a roast with all the trimmings - potatoes, carrots, onions, gravy. We sat down to eat and the roast was still very rare. Couldn't understand it. We had just moved into this house over the summer and had gone from using our great-grandmother's gas stove to a brand new electric stove. Poor Steve had forgotten to turn the oven from preheat to cook. Back then, I wasn't much of a meat eater anyway, so I passed. But this teacher and her hubby were chowing down talking about how they liked their roast cooked just that way. They had about 3 helpings each, along with the dessert he had prepared.

Poor Steve!! He tried so hard to impress this teacher and she basically told each of her classes about it the next day.

There's a new blog post up and I hope that our wonderful nursing community isn't offended. It's all in fun. However, it really is a day in the life of an Okie. Would appreciate comments.

Also, I'm getting ready to put together the Fall giveaway and hint, hint: it involves Ball canning items. :-) Will make the announcement in a couple of days.

By the way all, I just found a nice site by a woman who is living gluten and sugar free. It is very interesting and very personal. If you are having to follow this diet, you might check it out at http://tinyurl.com/24pocj3

Oh, that is hillarious!! Sounds like when my mom and her roommates in college in the late 40's, bought the newly invented "canned biscuits" and took them to their dorm which was a huge home. They decided to bake them and laid the can on a cookie sheet and put all in the oven. Of course the can exploded and they had to clean up a huge mess. Your incident sounds like, "no harm, no foul"!! :-) Thanks for sharing!!

When I was first married, I had friends over for dinner and made corn bread. The receipe called for well oiled pan 2/3 full. I filled the pan 2/3 full of oil, and poured in the batter. I had to pour off the oil and I went ahead and baked the bread. No butter needed to be added when we ate it.
