Posted - Oct 16 2010 : 3:02:49 PM I read Barbara Billingsly aka June Cleaver passed away today. She was always one of my TV role models. Soft spoken, impeccably dressed and always in the kitchen making something good to eat for her family or cleaning her already clean home. She may have been the idealized mom but we could use a few more like her as role models for today.

Posted - Oct 19 2010 : 08:00:38 AM that is a great idea. My aunt, by the way, is a big Aunt Bee fan herself. Even has her cookbook. (or the mayberry cookbook, or both??) She is now an innkeeper at a B&B in AL. She virtually IS aunt Bee. Bring on June Cleaver day!

Posted - Oct 18 2010 : 12:17:36 PM I loved all the old Mom's. Leave it to Beaver, Father Knows Best, Donna Reed and one of my all time favorite, Aunt Bee from the Andy Griffith show though technically not a "mom".
Linda, I like your idea to "dress up like Mrs. Cleaver". We could all probably ditch the jeans more and put on the pearls for our family. There should be a June Cleaver day don't you think?

Posted - Oct 18 2010 : 09:15:35 AM I agree that we need more role models like her. We need things to aspire UP to. My 13 year old just went through a gilligans island phase. He says "can I 'just sit right back' now?" (to hear a tale). I was wondering what I could introduce to take its place now that he has seen all the episodes over and over. Leave it to Beaver would be perfect I think! Wonder if I can rent it. Here is a secret episode from my past. When the big kids were little, and I was always in sloppy jeans and the houe was always a wreck (we home schooled, who has time to clean?) I thought it would be funny to dress up like Mrs Cleaver, pearls and all, when my husband came back from a trip, . He loved it! Said I could always dress like that. Gave me food for thought. Started dressing up more, jewelry more, still no heels...And then came the aprons. Have never looked back. Wear them often, like a uniform. Youngest muffin says he loves it when I put on my apron. "You look beautiful in your apron".
