Lately we have had a lot of these gi-normous brown spiders invade our home. I don't know what kind they are, maybe wolf spiders? But I am dead scared of spiders and just want them gone. I Just killed one that walked across my foot and I'm still shuddering YUCK!

Anyone else suffering a plague of spiders? Is it just cooler nights bringing them in?

We get those big brown guys in our basement too. they like to hid in the laundry.... and when i sort the laundry to wash... they pop out and scare the peepee out of me!!! they move quick too. Put some moth balls around the house...especially around the doors and windows and such.... that should help keep those fellas a bay.

It's ok I know there are folks out there that can't handle spiders. It is just that I believe them to be beneficial for keeping out the other nasties. I try not to kill anything I can find value in. But, I don't hesitate to squish, roaches, mosquitoes and flies of any shape and size. I relocate snakes too. They don't mean any harm they just have less and less space to live away from us.

I am sorry that I've been a spider killer. I will try to rescue them in the future, or better, get my sweetie to move them out side!!!!

I have to apologize too, Beth. :( I normally let spiders keep their space even in my home, but it's only the harmless ones. But unfortuantely yesterday I had to kill a black widow and three egg sacks at my sister's house. She was actually kind of pretty. I had never seen a black window in real life before. She was just too close for comfort. And to have I don't know how many babies. And since my sister is terrified of spiders, I just couldn't take the chance of her biting my sis or my nieces or nephew or the critters or any of the rest of us for that matter.

But I will save and relocate the next one we find. Ok. ;)

I used to be a fan of spiders until one hid in my winter hat, bit my chin, and I got a nasty infection with a scar for life! Now I am okay with them in the garden, but in the house, it is war!

I'm so sorry if I offended you, Beth... I do understand where you're coming from, and I'm really, really glad there are nice people out there who can handle spiders...I applaud you, truly! But it's just not for me. :) Ever since my stepmom was bit by a brown recluse (which we have here, too) and subsequently lost a big chunk of her upper inner thigh, I can't help it... They absolutely freak me out! We've got other less "scarey" spiders like daddy long legs and green spiders that don't bother me one bit; but these big ones that look like little armored beasts - nope, can't do it! Especially since I've seen one crawling on my pillow at night - that's when the final line was drawn for me. If they're outside, I don't bother them, and they don't bother me. I love their intricate webs, I love to watch them - they are very talented and interesting creatures, indeed! But if they're on my turf - in my house...it's curtains! You and I do have something in common, though: I really love to camp, and I really like walking sticks and praying mantis, too! :) And if you and I ever were camping together, I'd definitely let you move the spider. :) - Nini

Well, I absolutely love Spiders. You see they "Kill" and "Eat" other creepy crawlie beasties. I would much rather have a big ole wolf spider on my counter than a cock roach or silver fish etc. My whole family knows that no one kills a spider under pain of their own death. I have even been known to move black widows outside as opposed to killing them. I use to camp alot with a large group of people and I was always the spider mover cause they knew I would go ape on them if they killed them. I just love that they protect me from the nasty creepy beasties that live on filth. Spiders don't do that. I like walking sticks and praying mantis's too. I don't love all things natural but I do protect my spiders.

'Sounds like they could be wolf spiders, Annika... we get them here, too. UCK!!! I seriously feel for you! Thank GOD for my DH... I woke him up out of a sound sleep last night to get the one on the ceiling lingering over my side of the bed. <Uuuuuuuaaaaahhhh.... chiiills.... eeeeeuuuuuhhhhhh.... shuuuuudders.... shivvvvers....> 'Took an uncomfortably long, hot minute for his eyes to focus once he found his glasses, then he finally woke enough to realize he wasn't dreaming and figure out why I was reeling around the room like a lunatic... He caught clear sight of the spider (how on EARTH the man couldn't see that horrifyingly HUGE brown spot on the ceiling to begin with, I'll never know!), climbed right up on the bed, got face-to-face with it, swatted it with his bare hand, and carried it off to the commode...<EW! EW! EW! I was jumping all around!> God LOVE him - he's my hero!!! When he's not around to protect me, I try to get my son involved, but my child seriously enjoys my squealing and shrieking a little too much for my liking, so I find it's better to just go it alone! Worst case scenario, it's amazing what a shop vac and a loooooong hose and extended nozzle can do in a situation like this! LOL! Those suckers are fast and huge and I can't stand to even THINK that they live with us - yick! One night a couple of years ago, something stirred me to turn on the light. To my horror, I watched one crawl up over the side of my bed, cross straight over my pillow and under his. I about DIED. We got it, thank goodness, but I could hardly sleep a wink for many, many weeks thereafter!!! LOL! Spiders give me the gee-whillikers chillers right to the core of my being!!! This is one farmgirl at heart who hasn't quite yet learned to embrace the joy of all things natural! LOL! I'm with you, girl - I'm with you!!! Hugs - Nini

We get those big ole spiders alot when it starts getting cooler. We live in an older home with lots of cracks so there is really no way to keep from getting some kind of wildlife in here. I just keep a flyswatter in every room. I think you can get an exterminator to come and spray for them also. I don't think they are poisonous, just creepy. They are pretty big.
