Hey Farmgirls,
Wanted to share with you our interesting recent experience in Santa Barbara, CA when we (my daughter, Robin, and I) traveled there to participate in the AVON Walk for Breast Cancer.

We chose to wear our robin-egg blue "Certified Farmgirl" MJF t-shirts on one day. Because of a situation with Robin's car breaking down and needing repair we had to rent a car. There was an Enterprise rental office right across the street from our motel, so I made online reservations and then we walked there to pick up the car.

The office was manned by 3 young men, one of whom obviously was the manager. Another one of these fun fellows actually set us up in the car, including taking this photo. When we were all discussing which car to send with us they said they had a "blue bug" . . .and that it would match our t-shirts!! We hadn't seen the car yet but when we did we told him that it really didn't match. But we decided, just for grins and giggles, to go with it. We told him that we had a lot of "stuff" to put in it . . and really couldn't describe to him what our "stuff" was. (Luggage and ALL our walk event equipment, etc.) . . . and yes, it was a lot of "stuff".

During the course of the day we were asked several times "what is a certified farmgirl"? "How does a farmgirl get certified?" And we just explained that we REALLY were farmgirls and that we were part of the MJF "bunch of farmgirls". Even offered to let them see the farm dirt under my toenails . . .which one fellow at our motel got a kick out of . . .and we laughed.

We wore them to our breast cancer event check-in (hundreds of people there) and our crew meeting (400 crew members) . . . and had even more fun with this idea of "certified farmgirl". We were also wearing our sisterhood necklaces and those also were noticed. So, in a very unplanned, quirky and fun way we got the word out for Mary Janes Farm.

After the event and on the day before we were going to turn in the rental car, I had a question about the billing, so we just walked to the office. We were wearing our pink "we finished the breast cancer event" t-shirts. Same young fellows and they commented " here they are, back in pink". Told them that we wanted to trade the "blue bug" in for a pink one. . . to match our pink shirts!!!! Just kidding, of course, but we had a lot of fun with that one as well. The situation with Robin's car was stressful and frustrating . . .but it was nice to have some fun in spite of it!!!!

And, yes, we got all our "stuff" in that bug but it was a challenge and it was loaded to the top!!!!

Thanks for letting us share!!

Thanks girls . . .it was an experience!!!!

Kris . . this was our first experience with a VW. My hubby and I did have a Datsun station wagon that we bought new right after we got married. It got a workout. We even traveled across several states with our two small children and sound equipment for our Christian music ministry. Mercy me!!!!

CJ, I have had lots of VW bugs (the old ones) and you'd be surprised at what you can get in them. My brother, sister, my dog and me with all our belongings, drove from California all the way to Georgia in a beetle when we were just teenagers. What a good time we had! And I have had 3 since I've been married. One time I got 6 teenagers in my yellow bug. Now that was fun for sure. I am still not sold on the new look of these VW's. But the VW plant is in Chattanooga now.

You and Robin are such good examples. Ya'll do so much. And have such fun doing it.

Great Story CJ...a classic example of exactly what makes you a "certified farmgirl"... you take the situation at hand and turn it around to work for you.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful story and picture. I always enjoy your posts!
