ART IN THE ALLEY - GREENSBURG, KENTUCKY

CABIN CREEK FARM - KENTUCKY

Good crispy critter good morning gurlfrenz! Ran outside early this morning barefooted and in my underoos to give my newly planted fleurs a splashin' of water from the garden hose .. and had to hop back over the doorstoop and put some long britches on cuz' it's chilly out 'thar' this fine sunny day! MY KINDA' WEATHER! Looks like spring and feels like autumn!

I'm heading to town to finish up my little portion of gettin' preparations finished for our most Splendiferous "ART IN THE ALLEY" festival that our Green County, Kentucky Arts Council is sponsoring Saturday, June 3.

I'm just really disappointed that i won't be in Kentucky to play that day .. but DISNEY WORLD is calling my name June 1 - 10.

o.k. .. let me tell you a little sumpthin' about our now ANNUAL event .. which just gets bigger and bigger and 'specialer and specialer' each summer! The JOY of Art in the Alley is that it is held in our very quaint and historic town of Greensburg .. sooo .. it is not SO big that you get hustled and bustled about in the crowds .. but 'just big enough' to enjoy our town, our art vendors (and we have lots of different categories this year). Our artists will be displaying their hand-made art and crafts all up and down a sweet city alley behind our town shoppes. AND OH MY .. you will NOT want to miss our shoppes!

The Plaid Peacock and Lucy Tucker's Tea and Dining Room being the most wonderful of all!

You will want to cross the square on main stree (ALL within a couple blocks walking distance!) to visit Glover's Station Antiques Mall too!!! I have a BIG booth in the back on the first floor overflowing with treasures!!! AND .. from Paducah to Maysville ..
all along Route 68/80 .. there is a state-wide YARD SALE going on. So be sure to amble that path if you can for yet more goodies!

Our Historic Courthouse will be open for you to step over the threshold of the OLDEST original COURTHOUSE west of the Allegheny Mountains! And our adorable Old Clerk's Office will also be open that day .. THIS, i think is my very most favorite building in Greensburg! AND .. President Andrew Jackson spent the night in an old inn right next door! Be sure to take a walk across our FOOTBRIDGE leading to our historic Train Station Depot. Tracks are long since passed into history .. but the HISTORY is still there! And on the village-side of the bridge .. walk around our Water Tower building to view one of our 'wonders' .. a HUGE mural painted around the water tower and the building depicting life in Green County .. it is truly FABULOUS!!!

Stop by our Circle of Friends Heritage Garden and sit a spell with a few friends .. and maybe have a picnic lunch while there! We have new WALKING TOUR brochures .. be sure to pick one up at the Information Booth .. and take a 'walk-about' around town to see and read about our historic homes!

BRING FRIENDS .. and if YOU (or one of your artist friends) would like to be a part of our fun event NEXT year .. be sure to let the girls in our Art Council booth know! In addition to painters we have lots and lots of art/crafts categories. This year we have twenty-some categories. JUST about the right size .. not to be overwhelming!

IF you are the adventurous type .. be sure to make arrangements to take a canoe trip on the beautiful Green River that runs right at the edge of town. We have sweeeeeeet cabins where you can spend the night too .. call City Hall to check on availability!

Our Art in the Alley Information Booth will be handing out all kinds of great info telling of fun things to do and places to visit! AND be sure to pick up a 'restaurant' flyer with coupons for specials at all of our local eateries!

AND .. let there be MUSIC (and dancing in the streets if the spirit so moves you!) We will have musicians and songsters throughout the day to entertain you!

Soooo dear friends .. visit and you will see why i adore this town of Greensburg .. County of Green and State of Kentucky so very much! You MIGHT even want to consider moving here!!! There are some mighty fine historic homes and farms available from time to time!

OH .. and when you are ambling about ... every now and then shout out: WHERE IS FRANNIE???

HA .. might get you in more trouble than getting you FAR! OH .. and if you travel down Highway 61 south to get here .. when you pass Abraham Lincoln's Birth Cabin .. you make the very next left (Highway 61 south goes LEFT there) .. go about ten miles ... when you see a mustard and black sign on the LEFT at BRUSHY Road .. amble up and down the lane for 1/2 mile to the end of the road and you will be sitting right in front of the cabins. Take a 'walk-about' and say HAY to Cabin and Creek (they are fenced in) .. neighbors are checking on them daily). IF you are coming FROM the south .. go NORTH on highway 61 (where route 68/70 converges with it ... there will be a small shopping center with an IGA grocery store and McDonalds .. got NORTH for about 12 miles .. and the Cabin Creek Farm sign will be on your right.

I spoke with CHARLENE today .. and told her to let the girls know to give you a 20% discount on any of my treasures. If she forgets ... take these names with you:

Kledith, Carol, Charlene (one of the three will be working that day).

Have fun .. wanna' hear all about it when i get back home! xo

ohhhhhhh ... lisa .. be sure to tell the art in the alley gurlfrenz you are a friend of mine! and don not miss Glovers' Station antiques mall (my booth is on the first floor .. all the way in the back (looks like Sanford and Sons right now .. but i knew we'd be having the 68/80 yard salers coming through .. and i just STUFFED it .. (can't sell out of an empty wagon!) be sure to tell the girls (either Kledith, Charlene or Carol) at the front desk .. Frannie sent you!) And tell them that you get a 20% discount off of anything you might find in my booth. (i'm heading over there tomorrow .. soooo .. i'll let them know too!)

Oh do have lunch at Lucy Tuckers .. and ask if Peggy (Calhoun) is there and say a big howdy to her .. and that adorable little SUSAN who is the hostess .. give her a hug too!

And if you see our Mayor (Lisle Cheatham) .. tell him you travelled all the way to our town cuz' Frannie told you to! At the Olde Courthouse .. ask for Nan Montgomery and tell her you are a friend of mine .. she is the sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetest lady! As is everyone you will meet. IF you run into Rev. Charlie .. give him a big hug from ME!!!

Now i don't know EVERYONE in town .. and especially all the visitors we will have .. but i'm sure you'll meet enuff townfolk that will surely make you feel welcome!

I'm soooo excited you are attending and can hardly wait to hear what you have to say.

Be sure to walk down to the Olde Clerk's Office (and to the side of it .. to visit our Circle of Friends Heritage Garden .. and doooooooooo walk around the water tower to see the magnificent mural (on three sides of it) that was painted by Trina Corbin. Take a stroll across our bridge to peek at the old train station too!

Visit the Abell Log Cabin next to the Presbyterian church on the corner at main street!

oh have fun gurlfren .. wish i was gonna' be there to give you a big squeeze!

Frannie -

Not only is there the store, but the family that owns it also has a garden that is open to the public, it is run by the younger son. It was a wonderful article and the gardens look amazing. If it is near you, I think it is a must to see.

Thanks.

Frannie -

In all of your ramblings across the countryside in Kentucky have you been to a place called Rockcastle River Trading Co? It is in the Daniel Boone National Forest near Livingston. I just read an article about this store with wonderful garden stuff and linens and lemon-verbena soaps, etc. So, have you ever been there? Just curious if it is as cool as the pictures and article say it is.
