Posted - Jul 03 2010 : 5:37:29 PM I have been scouring the internet for a hymn that I have stuck in my head. I can only come up with bits and pieces of it and wanted to know if anyone knew the name of it.
I have heard this hymn sung at funerals.
Here is what I can recall---
Let earths salvation bring...to God to land (?) we pray help us in every sorrow...
I know its a long shot, but that's all I can remember.
Any help would be wonderful-
Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming Words: Es Ist Ein Ros, 15th Century German carol, Translator Unknown Music: Es Ist Ein Ros, Anonymous, 16th Century
Lo, how a rose e’er blooming, On tender root has grown. A Rose by prophet’s singing, To all the world made known.
The Rose ‘midst winter’s cold; A lonely blossom bearing, In former days foretold.
This Rose then of my story, Isaiah did proclaim. What God ordain’d in glory, By blessed Mary came. The Child the Virgin bore, The world’s salvation bringing Through Him for evermore.
The Rosebud small and tender Gives fragrance every day. And by It’s brilliant splendor Makes darkness pass away
True God, true Man, we pray, Help us in ev’ry sorrow, And guard us on our way.

Posted - Jul 07 2010 : 8:44:57 PM It fills my soul to listen to this hymn and I remember while singing this hymn at our good friend's funeral I cried. I didn't know the lady sitting next to me, but she took my hand and held it for the longest time-My husband was very very close to the family and he happened to be sitting a couple of pews ahead of me-I will never forget that dear lady for her compassion for a complete stranger-
The hymn must have held a special meaning to our friend as this is what the family chose to sing as part of the service.
Thank you gals for looking for the hymn for me!! I am so glad I found it after much sleuthing today!

Posted - Jul 07 2010 : 8:04:21 PM Amazing! I just found this thread and remembered the hymn. A group of eight of us sang this when we were in high school. Our little school, from a town of less than 400 people, had a great choir director who actually got a record of our whole choir and some of the groups including that one. It was back when churches and schools had close relationships. We preformed at 4 local churches during Lent that year.

Posted - Jul 07 2010 : 08:48:28 AM There is also a "forum" on that site, Melody. If it doesn't come up in the search, I might post there, something with key phrases like, "Covenant Church", "Swedish origin" and the words you can recall. It might not be today, but someone will help you!

Posted - Jul 07 2010 : 08:39:23 AM UGGGH---It is so frustrating to have a tune in your head that you have heard many times before and not to be able to name it!
This is a Swedish Hymn that I last heard many years ago at a funeral for a young man. The funeral was held at a Swedish Covenant Church. The young man happened to be a good friend of my husband and I and we named our own son after him-The song has special meaning to me and for the life of me I just can't seem to locate it....
Thank you Jonni for the suggestion went right to it and No results were found-----I'll keep trying though. It is a beautiful song that touched my heart.

Posted - Jul 07 2010 : 06:21:45 AM Good morning. I don't recognize the hymn, but this thread is refreshing! How lovely to have a forum where people ask about hymns and several ladies answer--especially the one who looked through THREE hymnals! You all make my day. Thank you.

Posted - Jul 03 2010 : 6:48:23 PM I don't know what it is, but you might want to call your church, maybe a paster or choir leader might know?
