I am on a round of Augmenten and also got a huge shot of a high powered antibiotic Sunday for my badly horribly infected finger. Since I have been on them I am STARVING! And tired. I thought I was tired because of working out in the heat. But the starving? Is it because of the meds? I don't know. But I just have til Sun. morning and I am done taking them. I am going to be as big as a horse by then.

I only go to the doctor when all else has failed and only been on antibiotics a few times since I've been married 31 years. I will do anything to keep from having to take them. Once I got a yeast infection so I think I would much rather suffer. But now I am drinking LOTS of kefir when I take a pill. And I really don't think my finger would have healed by itself. It was getting ugly. And fast.

Anyway, was wondering if anyone had symptoms like mine when taking antibiotics. Or is it just me?

It's totally a good idea to eat the yogurt during the treatment (and the kefir too) but just watch the timing otherwise the antibiotics kill the cultures that will help you not get the yeast infection.

He said to eat alot of yogurt while taking them. He didn't say when. I told him I am making kefir with my goat milk. I think he was upset because I didn't want a tetanus shot. And that I drink raw milk. And I waited so long to go in. Anyway, he sure didn't say a thing about that. I am just so afraid I'll get a yeast infection. Really, I am drinking the plain kefir all day.

Kris- I would wait at least 4 hours after you take your pill to drink any kefir or eat yogurt. Sometimes the pill gets "used up" fighting to the good bacteria in the kefir and the yogurt or take the pill 2 hours after you eat/drink those items. Basically you want to give the antibiotics as much time as possible to be absorbed by the body. I am surprised your doctor didn't mention that!

Kris--I was put on antibiotics during my recent hospital stay and I was absolutely famished when I got out. I'm still taking an antibiotic but I'm not eating as much as I was. I lost weight, re-gained most of it, then lost it again. Go figure. I'm also having trouble regulating my body temperature. I don't know if it's caused by antibiotics; who knows? I just know that as much as I dislike taking them, my lungs aren't going to clear up unless I do. I should probably be eating more yogurt but my appetite is weird. I hope your finger gets better soon--the less time spent on antibiotics the better. Modern medicine can be a good thing, but I prefer to treat myself my way. Or maybe I'm just stubborn.
