I am really new here but I feel so comfortable already. I have worked in social services going on 8 years. I just left an agency where I worked with women who had been in domestic violence relationship and people who have been sexually assaulted. Not a fun topic. I am now working with a criminal psychologist that deals with the worst people in the world. Yesterday was unbelievably hard for me. I just need some happy thoughts and know that there are good people out there. What made you happy today? Please renew my faith in our fellow man.

Pam- Thank you for the work that you do- it definately takes a special kind of person to do that, and luckily- you are one of them!
There are definately MORE GOOD people than bad in the world, but sometimes its hard to see it.
Here is a little story that just warmed my heart about a week ago....
I have been having what I would say is more than my share of "heartache" lately. My dad was diagnosed with Methoselioma (lung cancer from asbestos) about 7 weeks ago. Since then we have been traveling back and forth to Boston Mass roughly every other week for various tests, opinions etc. The sweet part about this story comes from what my 9 year old daughter said to me...
We have been taking our family mini van on these trips. Just me, my dad, my sister and my stepmom go.Upon my return from one of our trips my daughter gets into the van and says "mommy, where does granpa sit when you go to Boston?" So I turn to her and I say, "He sits in your seat." So innocently she turns to me and says "You can't catch cancer can you?" WOW- the innocence of a little girl- just brought me right down to earth. SO of course I smile at her, give her a hug and say "no honey of course you cant".
I have learned from seeing so many people at the Dana Farber Cancer institute, that just when you think you have it bad- there is always someone who has it worse- aint that the truth.
So, hang in there- you are doing a great service to many people who wouldnt be able to get by without your help. And whether you realize it or not right at this moment... you are appreciated.
Smiles and Hugs to you,
Laurie

Pam, God Bless You! For all the help you do for others! Keep them all in prayer knowing the Lord will provide. My happy moment was, I set down to read a book my 10 yr old GD wrote for her 5th grade class about her life. I sat there so proud of her writing and it just proved that the teachings that her parents and some help from grammy was shining through. Her love of family and friends was so strong. It just showed that when you show and give love it will then be received. It made me so proud. Even as the tears were running down my cheeks, knowing the blessing she has been to our family and others. Then I came to a letter that my DD had written to DG on the blessing she has brought into her life. I can't tell you the joy that I felt. It didn't cost us a penny to have the relationships of 3 generations share. So Pam, there is joy and good out there, and what you are doing is bringing that to others. Take some time to give it back to yourself also. And always remember that you have a huge group of farmgirl friends here for a pick me up anytime you need. We love you for who you are.

Hugs, Brenda

Pam . . . the farmgirls here are MY faith in "women-kind". I have found support, encouragement and LOADS and LOADS of reasons to be glad for my Farmgirl Friends.

I used to work for a family practic physician who did evaluations (physical, emotional and mental) of children who has been sexually abused. I know HOW that AWFUL-NESS for these people in these situations feels . . I know how you must feel.
We are here!!! This is a loving, caring bunch of farmgirls!!!
I'm praying . .

Pam, you have a very hard job and I don't envy you at all. Bless you for working with people who need help that most would not have the strength to help. I pray for continued strength for you as you continue to help people. And as you deal with some of the evil in our world I pray that you will be protected and be able to be a shining light amongst the darkest minds.

As for something that made me happy today, that would be watching my older boys put on a plastic instrument "concert" for their younger brother in his crib when he woke up. It was cute <3 Hope you have time to unwind a little today and regroup after your yucky day yesterday.

(((hugs))) Here's a great Bible verse for you today (and you're already doing what it says by surrounding yourself with the happy thoughts of friends):

Philippians 4:6-8 (Message version)
"Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse."

My happy for the day was seeing pictures of my horse's half sister over seas looking so much like their sire. Their sire passed away in December so seeing his babies looking so beautiful makes my heart happy.

That an my daughter found a headband and put it around her head and covering one eye and said "ARRR!" Pirate Nora! LOL

Pam, I admire those folks like yourself who put their hearts into a tough job. Where would the world be without you? I often think of that....what if no one wanted to a fireman, or a policeman, or an emergency room doctor? Or a person who works with criminals? thank you for having a heart to do a tough job.

Well, here is a sweet children's story that made me laugh at my granddaughter the other day. She has become, at four, a backseat driver. She tells me to put on my "siganal" before I turn, as she pronounces it. So we are driving along one morning and she says to me, "Nana, what color do you GO on?" (meaning stoplights) I said "Green,". She slapped her knee (really) and said, "Why so do we!"

I hope your week-end is full of green lights and happy times.

Hi Pam...I know what you mean. Though I didn't work in social services, or in your other occupation, I did work at a rural, county run animal shelter for several years and eventually just broke my own heart. I lost my faith in every stitch of humanity. I am still working to regain it...the birth of my daughter, now 15 mos. old, has helped.

I try to find a little good in each day, because living near a metropolitan area (Cincinnati, Ohio) has it's challenges, bad news-wise.

Yesterday, the neighbor two doors up told me that my husband's tail light was out, because he knew that we drive our daughter in both cars and wanted to make sure we knew it for safety's sake (we had no idea). He also asked me if I wanted to use his rototiller because he saw me down in the lower half of our yard on Sunday, trying to dig a pumpkin patch by hand. I jumped at the offer, and also gave him some homemade Violet jelly as a thank you.

My sister-in-law just emailed me to ask me if I wanted my niece's, now 5, play kitchen, radio flyer wagon (with wooden sides) and a few other summertime items for our little one. She lives in Indianapolis and said they are coming into town and would be happy to drop them off...money has been tight since my husband was off work for 6 months and we're digging out from under, so it's perfect timing--we were unable to buy her a wagon for her 1st birthday like we wanted. I never told anyone that.

Those are the two good things most recently that come to mind. Remember to look in small places for good. It's like leaving pebbles in the forest--you'll soon find your way back.

(edited for terrible grammar!)

Pam, whenever you work in those professions it is easy to be down and lose your faith. Just know that there are lots of friendly, helpful and caring farmgirls here. What made me happy today and every day is the wonderful women that I have met through this forum. I start every day with a little Farmgirl Connection and a cup of coffee. I ususally end each day the same way but with a cup of tea. Just know that what you are doing is important and that we are here for you.
